I love this thread. We get to see everyone's beauty. The world is an amazing place. Even right around the corner from where we are. (And @yaying...I come from here and it seems so 'normal'...but we know it's special, too.;)
And I have to say...everyone else has some pretty special back yards too. Wow. Thank you all for sharing. And a special greeting to you and Marianne over there in Santiago, @Peter Fransiscus ! Your time there is very well deserved. I chuckled to see your pic from the Cathedral...that's near where I like to sit, too - I know the spot by the mason's mark.

world is an amazing place
indeed, but cant deny 'some' unpleasing part of it, the least is unpleasant someone 'living' on it.:(
during my 30's i still play a simple kite(not for competition), apparently now where i reside going to a place where to fly a kite is more costly for me than to make my own kite.:p

i sometimes imagine while looking camino photo.... how lovely it will be to fly my little kite.

Drove 30 min.from home to Kanne.Still Flanders but close to border with Walloon part and the Netherlands.
Albertcanal, marl caves, forest area. Lots of bikers...the motorized ones...made a racket.
Then a very steep descent with a stair made out of wood blocks but looked rather dodgy. So we turned around and retraced our steps.
Started cold with 4 Celsius but ten kilometres and two hours later it was 12 C.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Cordes sur Ciel is a bastide village in southwest France which at one time was an important stop on a secondary route between Conques and Toulouse on the way to Santiago. In 1320 the Brotherhood of St James ran a refuge for pilgrims, and in the 16th century the St James Chapel was built. While it is small and somewhat neglected inside, I was glad to be able to find and visit the chapel on my walk today.

Walk? Well, ok a little bit. To the doctor. Silly me, fluid on the knee. But just look at the cure!!! I confess, the one I got is plain old plain old, but I just thought, there will be something on the melifump theme... 9cold pack for those with vision like mine!)

FYI: Last month in the sister thread to this I posted weather reports from Mount Washington, New Hampshire. It's a great place for a walk but not right now. I should quit posting but it just gets worse.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mount-washington-wind-chill-new-hampshire/

Last Updated Jan 6, 2018 1:18 PM EST

Summit conditions at Mount Washington were so brutally cold Saturday morning the temperature tied for the second coldest on Earth, according to Mount Washington Observatory.

The temperature hit minus 36 degrees Fahrenheit [-38 C] -- with a wind chill of minus 90 (minus 68 degrees Celsius), according to the educational and research institution in New Hampshire.

"We basically just start saying it's stupid cold outside," Mike Carmon, senior meteorologist at Mount Washington Observatory, told The New York Times.

The summit of Mount Washington sits at 6,288 feet [1,917 meters] above sea level.
I just returned from a trip to New England USA. Mt. Washington was quite chilly. I snapped a couple of photos, but my most interesting one was of the cairns used to highlight the walking path near the top to keep people from damaging the fragile alpine flora. A sign posted said to NOT move the rocks. Seeing the cairns reminded me of another thread on the forum where many debate whether they are a good thing or not.20180930_140731.jpg20180930_134803.jpg

Lots of good points about my walk today (about 18 k ):
Walked with an ‘old’ friend,
It wasn’t raining,
It was flat! (Not usual around here!)
And ... we came across the remains of two megalithic burial mounds. After living many years in this area, I didn’t even know they existed. We saw a third one - with huge upright stones still standing but couldn’t get near. Must study google earth....
And last but not least, we ended up in a pub for lunch :cool:641B50C2-3AC4-4B5F-96EA-502CE3EFA4A5.jpegE0EA9058-16FE-4BB5-B721-74207C024D70.jpegB534AC7D-74B2-43C1-B42A-A38350BB05C7.jpegB7A7D59D-1B0E-41A5-9C8B-AD90435319B6.jpeg0263DBD2-33B9-45B8-8389-D3852926445B.jpegABC4B8F8-402E-451B-A4F9-7B4F9118F90B.jpegBD00841D-3C63-4D4F-8F3D-AF1CB7A6B89A.jpeg0470CAB4-F223-4BF9-8FF1-FAA464873F37.jpegC55A2358-7A4F-4B4E-9326-B812254B1A01.jpeg80F60BF4-60E3-4ADB-AD20-92D6F768B173.jpeg

Thank you. To my regret, I still haven’t visited Ireland! So many more places to go to...

Edited cos I think I said it wrong! I meant ‘I still have so many places to go to’ including Ireland and not ‘rather than Ireland’!
I think I should stick to the ‘non serious thread’;)

Screen Shot 2018-10-06 at 11.10.34.png remember? from the not a serious thread, courtesy of stgcph... I have presumed permission to hand a copy to another forum member this afternoon when we are due to meet for coffee. everybody is welcome on every thread on every forum... I have to restrict my walking for a while and it is so frustrating!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Is it Illinois? If you knew how exotic it sounds to me
Yes, Illinois...exotic? t's mostly flat. We go up to Wisconsin state parks for quick getaways. Otherwise our beautiful national parks out west, and both coasts are lovely, too. (But I do seem to be more in love with Europe...probably because of the many ancient villages and cities.)

I didn’t even think of taking a photo. Ksam and husband arrived at the Emigration museum building in full sunshine, and we chatted away for an age, and then I reluctantly ushered them towards the exhibition...a lovely, friendly and true camino style easy conversation. Thanks, ksam and Ray!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Such beauty! Tell us more, and two are plenty with such composition. Thanks very much. They are worthy of framing, actually. :)
Well, the first photo is in Canada on the drive in the valley between Banff and Jasper national parks. The second photo is on the island of Santorini, Greece. It was a stop on a cruise with 12 family members.

Thank you. I feel a bit like a daft character in the film Jesus of Montreal.. she exaggerated her responses to everything. That is how it feels, nothing would totally capture the feasts in these two photos. That film got worn out until we no longer owned a dvd machine. I wonder how I would see it nowadays...

On a bird walk yesterday morning along the tidal flats near my home. First time I've been on a walk with some serious birders!. Fun being with them and watching the excitement as they spot something special :) Learned a lot.

I'm not a birder, but love spotting unique varieties. Is your final photo possibly an Osprey?

@Peter Fransiscus : aha good to see you up and about.
Weather looks glorious!
Do not see any " klompen " though ;);) Just kidding. Do enjoy it to the fullest ,but seeing the beer and bitterballen that won't be a problem.
Was my first beer in 4 month's and tasted nice.
Was a wonderful day Sabine.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
I have just come back home from walking Camino Primitivo from Oviedo to Lugo. It was wonderful, sunshine all the time and nice forest roads and paths. And it was not too demanding for a Norwegian living among mountains:) And now I wanted to keep up the good work walking here, but the weather is awful! Raining all the time, 5-8 degrees and new snow in the mountains. I have to wait for better weather. Until then you can admire my Hoka shoes which made me walk without problems with my feet.FCC45835-8E33-4405-9426-69E3C08B13B2.jpeg

So many wonderful photos! Love the birds, @Theatregal!

It was a very rainy day here...I am back again to where that happens more.
Went to the coast for a short walk where it can be nicer, and it was, a little. Returned in the evening, as the light was fading. There were still a family of hardy swimmers at the small beach, teaching their baby to the joys of the ocean in spite of the rain.:)
I have to thank all of you for helping me see what feels ordinary - taking a few pictures to share opened my eyes to the amazing textures and light, even on a rainy day. (The highlight of the day was a pair of small sea turtles, swimming back and forth in a small channel in the lava rock. They are often there, and that never feels ordinary!)

I've noticed the same about the Norwegian weather... Still in two minds about my next camino next summer, but I keep thinking about doing the St Olavsleden from Oslo. Too bad the Sundsvall Olavsleden whupped my #ss this year.[/QUOTE
The weather in summertime can be very unpredictable in Norway. This summer was splendid, but September has been awful. Olavsleden in an inland camino, and usually the weather is more stable and the summer better there than in my part of the country.

I wore Hokas on the Le Puy last June, which often had lots of rocks and roots. The shoes were like walking on marshmellows and I couldn't feel a thing underfoot. They also grabbed on to slippery wet rocks really well....highly recommend!

Citytrip to Santiago de Compostela.
Not as a pilgrim this time.
Lots of people...very different than in my early Spring Caminos.
The joy of those arriving is the same though.

I love your photos, especially the cafe still life. What a place to while away a few hours watching the world unfold before you!

I was fortunate enough this year... I mean *really, truly, grateful into my bones* to meet my beloved in Fromistá and walk the completion of his SJPDP-SdC camino and it was glorious. But I am also grateful to have my other beloved (my son) who loves to walk, and we regularly go on long-isa hikes of 15-25k (and occasionally more than that). On Friday we did a 17 k loop on the flood plain of a nearby river.

Still in wonderful Santiago.
Walked to Santa Maria La Real de Sar.
Just two k. walk from the Cathedral but a world of difference.
Quiet and intimate. Beautiful Romanesque church and cloister.
The added Baroque did not appeal to me.
Also a small but interesting museum attached to it.
And no one but I to visit.Again a big contrast to the hordes in the Cathedral.

Very peaceful cloisters, Sabine. Savour the time. It will fuel your inner peace store for the long winter ahead!

Here we are currently looking ahead to 4-5 days of sunny clear skies, low wind and temperatures above 20 C, which is very unusual in these parts this time of year. The mets call it ‘autumn-summer’.

So I took a walk by the lakes today.

Almost unheard of in mid-October: Being able to have lunch outside under the autumn colored trees.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
And old friend and I went for a 5K walk this afternoon in the national park next door (mostly on an old road) to check out the transformed landscape from the recent eruption...but mostly it was pouring rain, so what we saw when we got there was a white-out. But the new very deep cracks in the road were impressive, and the walk in the rain was actually a lot of fun.
(Though I have to admit, @stgcph , that I envy your sun!)

They are often there, and that never feels ordinary!)

way back home, i like soaking in the sea while its raining:) missing home so much:(
nevertheless, thankful someone out there like here(on this forum) im home:p

Yesterday I was able to treat myself to what I've come to refer to as my 'local camino.' A three-hour very leisurely solo trek, with switchbacks too many to count, up through the trees to a beautiful, peaceful place - the alpine meadows at the base of Black Tusk, in Garibaldi Provincial Park. A lovely saunter across the meadows and then another very leisurely 3-hour saunter back down the mountain through the trees. I am feeling refreshed; there really are benefits to walking by oneself! Such a beautiful, restorative place, I wish you folk could/would come and experience it too.

Two small circular walks and a total of 7k.
Again abnormal high temperatures for time of year.
Getting rid of those Santiago calories....hehe.

Just home from a holiday visiting friends on two of the Gulf Islands ~ first a day on Galiano Island. A great walk to and along the paths of Drumbeg Park oceanside and then past the pretty little Christ Church to a field to see petroglyphs carved into the bedrock.

Galiano 1.jpgGaliano 2.jpgGaliano 3.jpgGaliano 4.jpgGaliano 6.jpg

Then a few days on Denman Island. Some quiet restorative walks along the small island roads, through the village and on to Fillongley Provincial Park and it's beautiful dense mossy forest paths.

Was walking locally (Chester, UK) a couple of days ago (ie. 2018) and noticed a symbol carved into the local sandstone which made up part of a bridge I was walking over, it was strangely familiar. 20181015_151629.jpg

It's similar to the Ordnance Survey (UK mapping) symbol signifying a viewpoint but not quite. Anyone got any ideas as to what it means? Here's the rest of the bridge.

And the view from it.

A selection of Camino Jewellery
I am really missing walking, and we have great weather for it. A little more patience till my knee sorts out its loose bits. I do laugh when `I remember that is how I said it felt. and it did! meantime I am enjoying seeing everyone's photos.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
