I wore Hokas on the Le Puy last June, which often had lots of rocks and roots. The shoes were like walking on marshmellows and I couldn't feel a thing underfoot. They also grabbed on to slippery wet rocks really well....highly recommend!
Hi Chris @Camino Chris

Your post makes a good recommendation for Hokas.. would you tell me what model you have and how hard they were initially to get used to. Were you blister and pain free ?
‘your description quoting marshmallows ‘ sounds very comfy.

Buen Camino

Annie, I had an older model of Hoka One Ones, and no longer see them online. Many newer models available, sorry I cannot help you with that. Others on the forum have used more current models and still seemed to have the same results.
They were not hard to get used to at all,and yes, blister and pain free!
(An annoying thing about many good hiking/trail shoes is that the manufacturers seem to change the same model quite often so it's hard to find the exact shoe a year or two later.)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thanks for response Chris. I’m heading to USA again in 2 weeks ., I’ll scout out what they’ve got in REI whilst there. I’ve looked back at @davebugg posts for his wonderful advice and see he was trialling many versions of Hoka One One s. over a period. Also @peregrina2000 is happy with her Altras too, I believe from posts. , so I hope to get a feel of those too

Buen Camino / happy local walking to all !!!

At last the sun is shining! It has been raining for two months..Today was beautiful but a bit cold. I went for a short walk in the neighborhood to have a look at a big “wall” the authorities are building near my street. ( I don’t know what you would call it in English). It is meant to protect the houses from avalanches coming from the mountains. But I have lived here for 44 years and never felt unsafe, and no avalanche has ever been near the house...82AAFA00-5663-4633-88B4-FC9162FA89DC.jpeg5CA4093C-321F-4630-9D8E-590AC21F968C.jpegA4072673-603F-4667-B4BF-499FC3077FFC.jpegBA4BA452-7640-4061-8C13-8077548E66A5.jpegE233233D-84BD-4E79-AEDA-7CE7BB1D26DA.jpeg

On the spur of the moment I decided to take advantage of one of the last periods of warm, settled weather in France and walk a section of the Le Puy from Nasbinals to Conques. Fabulous weather with not a cloud in the sky from the Aubrac plateau until the last day in Conques.1DA01F31-1589-4AC3-BB60-41299E7C4499.jpegC9FABC6A-65FF-4E78-A46B-95577814BD26.jpeg43AE7586-A67E-475C-BA49-E61A6A98A65F.jpeg5A2564D5-15AE-4E76-B254-EFDCD250A385.jpeg43F02EC1-2CE7-4DE5-ABB9-F8FD3D6E6163.jpegF69466BC-D6D2-4AD7-B6F3-8C337E37A800.jpegB6AC0EF2-6C26-495A-A1AC-FB9481E3FFC2.jpeg1B58EE23-5FC3-43EF-9AE7-9B44D8B81154.jpegB568517E-6914-41FF-B82A-ADA12469B84B.jpeg1972DC84-A5B8-47D5-8AED-C59F897E7D97.jpeg

What do I say here? I just want to refer to a post I have made on a wordpress blog. I am not up to scratch, but if it has worked you will see where i went off to for a week... never imagining i would ever walk up and down those hills and in and out of those Medinas... if you look for wordpress.com or kirkie47, I think the title is A journey. If this is not allowed, let someone tell a moderator quickly!

Welcome home, @kiwifamily!! You're very fortunate to live in where you do!
I'm a stone's throw away from you, but heading back to Asia tomorrow.
It was a glorious morning and there was lots of good company out there for the walk my friend and I had this morning. A sunny Sunday, and everyone was out there with their dogs. Very nice! And this afternoon we plan another ramble...though now it looks like rain...

I tried to look at your photos of Morocco, but was only able to view your Camino Frances pictures, lovely as they were.

Must confess my picture was actually taken on Friday, just hours after arriving home;-)
If I’d posted at the time I might have found out sooner you were actually in the neighbourhood and we could have met up. Introvert Me could be on a roll after successfully meeting Ivar! Maybe next time. Buen viaje!

Well, I'm on Waiheke at the moment...so it's a bit out of the way. Yes, next time, though - it would be lovely to meet...and I'm also the quiet type and so completely understand. Besides, you were enroute...
As I will be tomorrow. Gracias for your good travel wishes!:)

My afternoon walk was very nice indeed, though my shoes got drenched by the rising tide in the end...

Nice walk, @SabineP ! I hope the blue sky stays with you through the winter this year!

I did 5k today on our local, flat country trail. 48° F, windy and a slight drizzle. I pretended I was on the camino cuz you never know what weather you are gonna get. I just consider it good practice for my next Spring adventure!

Kirkie, I enjoyed reading your account of your trip to Morocco, yet how sad and desperate many of their lives are. It is heartbreaking. The photos are so unique and colorful, very nice.

When I saw your camino pictures I just googled...wordpress.com kirkie47.

Kirkie, I just touched kirkie47 on your first post and touched ‘search web’ on the pop-up box. Because I use duckduckgo for a search engine (doesn’t track you), I got this:

Thank you for telling of your journey ... in words that could only have been written by you 😊
You do have such a wonderful way with words!!
Thank you ...
and such beautiful photographs ... the dyes in sacks, such glorious colours, how did you tear yourself away from them??

Today I walked 16k.in the valley of the river Maas, the natural border between the Netherlands and Belgium.
A flat walk with a varied landscape. Halfway you will see a bunker from WWII. And an old borderstone.
Starting point is the small village of Oud Rekem, voted as one of the prettiest villages of Belgium.

Lovely photos, Sabine. So glad you had that walk today, on such a clear and limpid day

A shorter stroll than yesterday. Only five k.
And although I love the flat region around the river Maas I just adore my south Limburg region with the gentle rolling hills. Although you might find it boring by now...;)

Thank you so much! It was very interesting. Of course I didn’t understand all what was said, but the English text explained most of it, I think. The pictures of the church are beautiful, with the light coming through the walls.

Looking south across Dublin bay this morning. I tried to catch the sounds of the birds but failed. I resorted to cycling as my knee is behaving badly again, but that’s not the end of the world...beautiful to have such a clear day, and a gentle breeze...

An abnormal high temperature at 11 Celsius.
Grey but dry...Had been raining the whole night.
Went rather early so only saw two local hunters. Happy with my red jacket...;)

Had been raining the whole night.
The mud, the mud...;)
I sure hope it dries at some point between now and April, Sabine.

Here is my walk today - well, it was a nice detour on my way home from an errand - to a village pagoda a few kms away, with more sleeping dogs than people at that time of the day.

Ever since I learned that the Bay of Fundy in eastern Canada experiences the highest tides, I've been intrigued by the idea of going there. This past summer I managed to get there (sorry, it's taken me this long to sort my photo problems). Am also attaching a time lapse high/low tide video if anyone's interested.

These mountains are “my» mountains. I live to the right in the picture. I don’t climb the highest tops any longer, but there are lots of nice paths in the mountain sides. But many of us don’t like to walk there any more. Since 21 November a young woman has been missing in this mountain area. She told friends that she wanted to walk in the area to the left, where there is a very much used path. But she never came back. Her car was parked where one usually starts walking. Since then there has been a big rescue action. Police, Red Cross, hundreds of volunteers, dogs, drones, helicopters, all have been searching for her for a long time, but in vain. Signals from her mobile phone show that she had been there, but not exactly where. Now the mountains are covered in snow so it is impossible with a further search. It is a mystery and a tragedy.ED8032DF-B2E1-416D-B5FD-CCDCB0BF5167.jpeg Photo from my local newspaper, Møre-Nytt.

Thanks for sharing this with us all. We can hope, but it is a long time since the young woman started her walk... thinking of her, and her family, in this distressing time.

I heard a whisper there is snow on ‘The Continent’ ! That is what it was when i was young... Today I will be going to this place, but sadly without time to walk, just to soak in the view. As soon as I can, I will be posting photos from my first real walk for ages, now my knee is on its way to normal services..

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Tairua! That pic I posted in October of the labyrinth was from there.
It's a very small world, @Kiwi-family . Happy summer to all of you and may you enjoy all the Pohutakawa.
I get a little pleasantly homesick every time I see photos of them blooming - it is just nostalgia. The Tip Top sign did it too - Hokey Pokey ice cream...
Thank you for the gladness!:)

And happy winter wonderland to you Sabine! Thank you for sharing the snow. It looks sooo beautiful.
But...brrrrrrrrr! All that gorgeous whiteness has a little down side...

Today I walked along by the river Liffey into Dublin. It rained somewhat. i walked with some visitors from Castejon for a while. I saw many tourists, doing their best with the rain. i saw children, carefree, as they ought to be. I saw happy people, exchanging the looks and smiles of friends and partners. i saw people plugged into their ears. I saw people bouncing along without awareness of the fact that they have lost touch with their boundaries and are shouting and behaving ‘strangely’. I met my usual assistant in the outdoor shop who quickly brought me my new shoes and sent me home with a little discount... and I walked home, happy with the second day of exceeding 10,000 steps after quite some time not being able to do this. So, thanks, Sabine, for initiating this thread. I do look forward to another year of being able to share in the delight of other peoples photos and local walks. And my new shoes are just the same as my old shoes, and the ones before that, and the ones before that! I walked home in them, and didn’t notice the difference - except that yes, they are lighter. Happy local walking to everyone, as the year ends and the new one is poised to begin.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Kirkie, I love Ireland! Went there about six years ago, rented a car with hubby and visited many beautiful sights, but didn't kiss the blarney stone. In case you haven't noticed, I already have the "gift of gab"!
🤣🤣 I kissed the Blarney Stone; it had no effect on me! (I, too, enjoyed my visit to Ireland.)

If everyone is ok with it I will ask the moderators again to close this thread.
I will open a new one and insert it here.

Yesterday was grey and misty but not cold at all....

Wishing everyone beautiful local walks.
Enjoy!
