I walked to the Vezelay route :D I walked from home and over the coming 6 months I'm going to walk to SJPdeP in stages before I do the CF.

I walked 12.3km... no big hills so an easy walk... but I cant imagine having to walk another 8km before I could stop... I have a long way to go with my training!

Anyway - where did you walk today? You all live across the globe it would be great to see more photos of your local walks.

Looks good at the beginning...

Hi LesBrass,

The picture is 2 years old, but I was at the same place today: it's one of my favourite walk, around 9 km long and 400 m uphill (and down, from the place where the picture is taken...).

Jacques-D.

PS: I walked Vézelay in 2007 and partially in 2010: it's beautiful walk

wow great pictures, well I walked from 7.30am to 4pm in the Brecon Beacons (Wales) today with snow on mountain tops and a lovely sunny day. Then after my walk in pain drove to my local gym spent 2 hours in sauna/steam and jacuzzi and I am now feeling almost alive after a curry and a bottle of merlot ,I know i'm no where near as fit as I once was. but i've had an enjoyble day and that's all that matters. only 50 sleeps till I leave for my Camino

Had a great walk in sunny northern California yesterday. 27km, 4.5 hours, 10kg pack (weighted for training).

The spirit was alive in me. I love these days...Upper Park.jpg

No snow in any of these photos, and then I look out my window!!! Unfortunately no walking for me today as there was church, then a lenten discussion group and supper preparations. Maybe Monday or Tuesday. A heavy snow warming for Wednesday night here - oh dear, when is spring going to arrive!!!

I'm with you Gailsie. Terrible winter in Nova Scotia and it has really affected our training routine. We are due to start from SJPP in 9 weeks and I need the snow to stop so I can get at least semi fit!

I was one of the 40,000 - 50,000 participants of Auckland's annual Round The Bays run yesterday. See, that's me in the blue cap! The course is 8.5km, but by the time we walked to/from parking, it was well over 12km. No pack, though. :)

Finally this week was able to get out twice and run errands into our village on foot, then a very short walk to test out new shoes (too small). Today another walk twisting through the local housing development for about three miles. Still way too much snow to find a real trail in upstate New York so I have to make do. But at least the sun was out. And so were we.

Shovelling snow is great for cardio :D If you have water proof boots you can walk in the snow. It'll be harder but IMHO that's a good thing. If you train hard then the real thing will be easy.

Of course when we were kids we walked up hill both ways to school :p

These are some old photos, but I've walked here yesterday as well. Lots of climbing but the views & peacefulness are worth it!

Well, I take too many phtos to show them all on here! Last week I did my "5 churches" walk, here in Suffolk. About 12 miles [20 kms] which is usually my maximum - and further than I'll be walking each day on the Camino Ingles in May.
I'd love you to come with me on the walk, and see the churches - just RIGHT click on the link, and open in a new tab [otherwise you may leave the Camino web-site.]
https://plus.google.com/_/notifications/emlink?emr=11135864780440469337&emid=CMjJo5ez-bwCFTMETAodsGwAAA&path=/photos/111724793142187606932/albums/5986984180129178145?authkey=CKbT3_f81JrPNw&dt=1393953964891&ub=21
When the link has opened, LEFT click on the first picture, to follow the walk - and you can see all my comments on the right-hand side of each picture.

I am hoping to walk Porto to SdC at the end of April/beginning of May, plans to be confirmed after my next eye specialist appointment. I have been walking a few times at the local indoor track but I am not found of walking in circles without scenery. Good luck in your preparations. I walked about 3/4 of the Frances in the fall/09. It was a wonderful experience.

Susanna, thanks for merging this thread with the one of the local walks!

Thank you, well actually I didn't merge them, as there are so many pictures in them, so it would be difficult to load.
But I tagged them as "local walks", which makes it easier to find also Sabines thread with lots of great local walks pics. :)

Thank all of you for making my day (or the past couple of days) with photos of your walks. I know that spring will soon be here and that our snow will disappear eventually (a huge storm called for Wednesday). These photos have lifted my spirits immensely and soothed my soul. Thank you so much

Hi everyone - and thanks LesBrass for your fantastic opening post. All the photos are beautiful - thanks for posting them.

The following photo is of "The Esplanade" in Cronulla, a beachside suburb of Sydney. Cronulla is a peninsular and it's possible to walk around the peninsular in around an hour. The Esplanade takes up about half the walk, the rest is through a park and on the street, but it's possible to walk along the bay side of Cronulla when the tide is low. The Esplanade is about 5 minutes walk from our house and the most gorgeous ocean views can be enjoyed while you walk - whether it's rain, hail or shine it's always beautiful. I took this photo at around 1pm today ...

Lovely lovely thread! Yay!

I cannot boast beauty or grandeur in my regular 4K each way walk through this rather bleak coastal area (trailer parks, cow pastures) of Oregon to the local bus stop. But where I go each day, ahhh, that is heaven. I work in a school district where i am a special care aide to a young girl with serious progressive disabilities. But her joy, her loving ways, her smile and her spirit make me see the miracle and preciousness of life again and again. The small accomplishments she makes, the love and compassion of the other children in class who understand she is different and take care of her, it is extraordinary work and I walk towards it each day with gratitude.

I gave up my car recently!: I wanted to give in and up to walking all I can. But here at this little store i take the bus so I don't have to fight log trucks on the highway for the last stretch!

May your Camino Continue on and on!! Love to all!

What a brilliant thread!!! Last week I walked up onto Brean Down, a high down that juts into the sea at the south end of the beach in my hometown, Weston-Super-Mare. Had a pre-Roman hillfort on it once, and now has the ruins of world war fortifications ... marvellous up there. One can see Glastonbury Tor, over 20 miles away from the top. Met some goats up there too! Walking alone along the spine is the best!

LesBrass - you have started off a beautiful thread - such great postings.
The thing about your 12.5k and not believing you could go another 8 - thing is, don't treat it as a trek or a pack march. Every hour or so - two at the most - stop, put your pack down, take your boots and socks off, get the air on your feet, eat, drink, look at the view, look back to where you have been - take it easy, then, a short while later get back up and start again. This way your day will be really pleasant. Think about it. Say you wanted to walk 26 kms ... and you start at 8am. Walk 6.5k, in two hours really easy going. Stop at 10 for 30 minutes .. walk 6.5k, at 12.30 stop for an hour, walk 6.5k, stop for thirty minutes, at 3pm walk 6.5k and you are there at 5pm ... not even tea time!!
So, take it easy, be kind to yourself, ramble don't trek - and the miles (kms) will fly by!!! and as your fitness improves over the days it will get easier and easier - enjoy!
Buen Camino!!

Sadly, this is not the time of year we can train outdoors. This week we got outside walking for the first time since Christmas. Polar vortex, -49C, Northern Canada, blah blah blah. Photos right now would only be white and grey. All of our training so far is indoors, but starting next week we hope to get a good month's worth outside with our packs.
Thanks to everyone for sharing photos of their walking spaces. It's been wonderful looking at them!

Oh I miss living by the coast , i used to be able to see Weston-Super-Mare using my binoculars from my bedroom window as a child from across the water in south wales, I always told myself when i grow I would go to the far more sophisticated land across the water. ;)

Well yesterday I had a conference at the national memorial arboretum so not much time this weekend for a big walk so I managed about 3 hours along the Trent and Mersey canal and it was a glorious day, I wore shorts for the first time this year. Woop woop!!!:D

Hello lovely people!! What a beautiful world we live in :)

I've hardly done any walking this week - too much work and not enough hours in the day but I have enjoyed looking at everyone else's images. I have one more week of way too much work and then I'm expecting things to calm down... and I'll be back to walking every day... but in the meantime I can enjoy all the photos that you're all posting.

happy walking!

Hi everyone -
Firstly, Homa_bird, I loved your post so much. The picture you paint of your walk to your local bus stop has stayed with me from the first reading and as more posts have come in I have re-read your post each time - thank you for sharing this.
Secondly, Newfydog - Wow - Smith Rock State Park looks spectacular! The photo is fabulous - thank you!
On my walk today I took a couple more pics of the path around Cronulla - each time I walk on the bay side of Cronulla I pass my favourite house - the photo will tell you why it's my favourite! The other photo is of the track to the beach a little way beyond it.

Wow, what a tour of beautiful places around the world. Here are pics of a couple of my recent training walks... yesterday in the Arizona mountains, and last week along the rim of the Grand Canyon. (Though for full disclosure, the photo is from a similar walk on the day after Christmas.)

I walked as every Sunday on Sierra de Madrid, a mountain chain accesible in only 50 minutes from the capital. My walk yesterday was only 10 kms nothing special , but the good news is that we are in Spain in spring right now. So, the mud in Camino Inglés, Portugués, etc, will dry soon.
I am SOOOOO pleased to hear that!
On May 14th I leave for Santiago de Compostela, planning to walk both the routes of the Ingles: if it's very muddy, I will blame you, Pelegrin, for misleading me! ;)
Buen camino a todos!

Stephen, today in Madrid we are looking for the shade (sorry for emonty). In Santiago today 20º C and sunny. But....
according to weather forecasts this next weekend Winter returns in Spain, 2 - 10º C on Sunday in Santiago and light rain. Stephen, weather in Galicia in May God knows. What I say is just now probably the mud is almost dry in Camiño Inglés, so, please don't sue me.
Amazing places for training (Grand Canyon, Australian beaches, Scotish borders ....) I was proud of my humble Sierra de Madrid, but now I almost depressed:(

We all just use what we have, I would have ben very happy in the Sierra Madrid today:). It stopped snowing but last week our roads were flooded, now they are drifted shut. I have been using the track at school because of the flooding but 10 miles on a track is a little monotonous:)!

Great idea for a thread.

I'm lucky enough to be able to walk in a variety of terrains nearby to where I live.

Some of my favourite routes are in and around the Mendip Hills in SWEngland.

Here's a couple of pics to give you an idea of how lucky I am.

Buen Camino.

Hi All,
I posted the photos from Hervey Bay on the 10th March. We didn't walk today because we BOOKED OUR TICKETS TO SPAIN !!!! We leave Brisbane, Australia on the 1st September. Going through the emotions now of wow fantastic and ....what have we done !!! My husband is "Miracle Man" after being unable to walk last September which meant he had to have major spinal reconstruction - $A44,000 titanium inserts - to now being able to walk comfortably and building up distance each week. Love all the photos and a big THANK YOU to everyone who has answered my questions and given us advice and confidence. Sriyantra

IMG-20111228-00018.jpg Well I'm home in South Wales this weekend, so I walked about 18Km along the Glamorganshire coastal path, its been about 3 years since I did this part of the Wales Coastal Path, its been a bit like memory lane as I used to play here as a child( or a teenager causing mischief)
this is a rather bad picture of my collie playing on Lavernock beach(bare bum beach know locally for obvious reasons), in the Vale of Glamorgan. I must remember to take a camera with me as my mobile isn't very good

A selection of Camino Jewellery
I can't match the beauty of other people's pics, they make we want to go on pilgrimage to where they live. However, for a change of pace I post these. My wife and I walk the dogs in a park close to us and this morning I took my pack. Three inches of new snow (sigh).... The tire tracks behind my wife belong to a local drug dealer who left quickly when he saw us coming; I live in an interesting place where meth sales supplement farm income.

Yesterday's bush walk (with pack) left a few sore muscles. But as we're only in the Blue Mountains for the weekend I had to see a bit more. Does a walk of a kilometre from the car park count? This was the resulting view. ImageUploadedByCamino de Santiago Forum1395541495.347075.jpg

I live in West Sussex on the coast, and most of my walks are either on the promenade at the beach, or since the weather has been getting a bit drier I've been walking on the South Downs and in a local nature reserve called Kingley Vale. There are some nice steep hills to climb, and scamper down again.

Just one month before I fly to France to start the Camino Frances on 24th April! Can't wait.

Hope you have better luck than I did with my black lab. I throw the ball, and she looks at me. Then I go fetch :)

I have the opposite problem with my boarder collie, she is ball obsessed, she will run up to complete strangers and place the ball at their feet and expect them to throw it, I spend most of my time in the park apologising to strangers and explaining to her that not everybody want to play ball with you, luckily there are some dogs lovers out there and they start playing with her and I often begin to wonder if I will get my dog back from them as she will latch onto almost everybody.

Snow, ice, and frozen, deeply rutted mud forced me inside today so I walked at my former place of employment, the local secondary school. I opened the doors at the ends and included the gym. Didn't mind the idea of cold but slipping and hurting myself on the ice less than two weeks before departure would have greatly annoyed me:).ImageUploadedByCamino de Santiago Forum1395610044.628787.jpg

Just to show that I do get to walk in some interesting places I offer the following. Last year I had knee replacement surgery for Christmas of 2012, and then was suddenly offered a buyout to retire early by our financially stressed school district. This picture is from my first hike after the knee replacement. I took it when I decided to skip all the speeches on my last day of school and went to the mountains instead. It is Dream Lake at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, somewhere between 11, 000 and 12,000 ft just about 11 months ago. It was also the first hike in my effort to rehab for the Camino this year.

Central Oregon spring. Last week fresh snow, yesterday Crooked River Gorge with desert wildflowers.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Every week, as part of my training, I do a 9km circuit on the Gold Coast that has a 2km stretch that says it has a 22% gradiant. I have been doing this walk more as a cardio workout and after 21 times of wishing the climb would end and praying for either the summit or death, I thought it would start becoming easier. I found out by a local council worker the other day that the sign that says it is 22% is actually false. He said that it actually is 27% in parts!
I do love the view from the top though :)

I am technologically challenged so can't upload camera photos to the internet yet. But Friday I walked for the first time outside in my own neighbourhood. The snowbanks have shrunk back enough for the road to walk safely. I took along a small plastic grocery bag and picked up garbage - should have brought a garbage bag as it was full in a short walk to the corner and back. Since I only have 5 weeks to go before the Camino Portuguese I had better get out everyday to walk, this cold and cough has knocked the stuffing out of me.

What a wonderful thread. Thank you for starting it!
Today my best friend and I went on a short but sweet (5.54 miles/859 ft. elevation gain) geocaching hike in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, U.S.A.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
