Where is the 100km marker and the nearest point before that to get a Credencial stamped?

Camino Frances 2016
Hi All,

My grandson & l are walking the last 100km of the Camino Portugués and its his first Camino so I want to make sure he gets his Compostela.

He is autistic and this would be a great achievement for him similar to when he achieved his competent crew certificate from the RYA.

We arrive in Vigo on Wednesday 28 March and leave the following Wednesday 4 April so I think we need to walk a bit on the arrival day and collect stamps before the 100km marker. I'm thinking that we will need to start around Porrino (if that's 100km plus?) to achieve this but as I've not walked the route before I would appreciate some guidance. I'm thinking first day Porrino to Redondela as we only have the afternoon to walk.

Any help/guidance much appreciated.

Regards

Grahame

Hi, I would suggest that you start at the cathedral in Tui, and get your first stamp there. Tui is magnificent, well-worth exploring, and is a much more fitting start to a pilgrimage than the industrial town of Porrino.

Hello!

If you start in Vigo and walk the Coastal Route, next stop will be Redondela - about 15.7km of walking, in my opinion quite doable in one afternoon, especially because it does not seem to have a lot of climbing. You would be able to get a Compostela as it is 102.8km from Santiago.

Alternatively, if you start from Porriño, if I'm not mistaken it would be about 105km more or less, which would also be suitable for the Compostela but oh, boy, you got an afternoon of climbing and going down hill there! I did Tui-Redondela (33km) in one day and I admit, it was hard. We reached Porriño at lunch time and then arrived in Redondela at about 7pm. Now it is up to your abilities.

As mentioned before, Porriño is kind of an industrial city, but upon leaving the city you go between villages and mountain up to Santiaguinho and it is a very beautiful walk.

Buen Camino and have fun!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

I started from Tui in 2015, but as Ophelia says it makes for quite a tough first day ie 33km to Redondela.

If I did it again I would start in Vigo which takes you along the coast and is only circa 16km to Redondela on the first day and circa 102 km in total & therefore just OK for your Compostela.

Buen Camino and enjoy!

Hi Grahame, I think Tui would be your starting point to cover the last 100km. We saw many pilgrims arrive by bus at Tui when we did the Portuguese last year.
Buen camini

Hi. A caution regarding Vigo: as I’m discovering, there are conflicting thoughts about whether or not it meets the 100km standard. Some maps indicate it is, while others indicate it’s a little under 100km, so it’s a bit of an open question as to whether starting there would earn a compostela. The last stop I’m aware of on the coastal route before Vigo is Nigrán. When I walked Nigrán to Vigo last year, i seem to remember a wooden sign saying we were at the 100km-to-go mark, but don’t recall exactly where that was.

Good luck!

One km before Porriño is the 100 k mark. Easy walk from Porriño to Redondela, mind you, not the prettiest but it gets better after Redondela. Buen Camino

Thanks Jill. I decided to start in Tui then read your post which was a perfect validation of my decision.
