Hello we're starting where we left of last year in villafranca montes de oca. We have booked to stay our first night in castrillo de val. it says on booking that it's on the Camino trail. We are wondering has anyone any information on here as we can't see it on Brierleys map. And if it's on the orange trail or the green trail. All information greatly appreciated thanks

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Castrillo del Val is a few km off the Camino, so you won't see it in the Brierley guide. Always a good idea to check locations on a map when you see accommodations claiming to be "on the Camino". If you search the name on Google maps you can see the location. You would need to walk an alternate route (closer to the cycling route I believe) if you wanted to stay there. Otherwise check the names of accommodation listed in Brierley and Google them - many will have websites even if they're not on Booking.com. There are numerous options much closer to the normal walking route, depending on how far you want to walk that first day (bearing in mind the hill out of Villafranca is a bit brutal if you are doing it first thing in the morning, as I recall!)

Whatever you decide, happy planning and a buen (continuing!) Camino.

That is why you have to be careful with booking.com and other such services ;-) It is not on the Camino Frances but several km away from it,

@SYates makes a very good point here. Many places that advertise on services like booking.com are mainly geared towards motorists and for them being 4 or 5km off route is a trivial distance and for practical purposes they consider themselves to be on the route. A very different matter for a pilgrim at the end of a long hot day. I would always check the actual position on the built-in map on the website before making a booking. Also worth bearing in mind that a municipality along the Camino Frances may be very large and the physical location may be a fair way from the postal town given in the address.

Thanks so much everyone I'll see if I can cancel and re book.

I'm finding it hard to change this booking. Does anyone know Would it be possible to get a taxi to the hotel from atapuerca and taxi back to here the next morning to resume walking.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

It's ok thanks everyone for your help. I've cancelled and booked Atapuerta. With A loss of £100 but I'll look at it as a learning curve. We are a party of 8 this year with 2 in our party in they're 70s and 2 children and we ll be needing a bag drop. It's less hassle to go with Atapuerta

Since you will restart in Villafranca Montes de Oca you might stop for your first night in Atapuerca. See the lodging possibilities in this Gronze. com page.

Good luck and Buen camino!
I support MS suggestion - my walking companion and I walked from Villambistia to Atapuerca, with breakfast stops at Villa Montes de Oca and a coffee/bocadila at San Juan. We still made it to Atapuerca before the 13.00 (1.00 pm) opening time. We stayed in the El Peregrino, but there are a couple of other places. From Atapuerca the walk to Burgos is an easy half day. Cheers

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
