Does anyone have any suggestions where to sleep in October? Albergues in Potugalete and Pobena will both be closed

'The Northern Caminos' by Perazzoli and Whitson, mentions Pension La Guia (tel 944 837 530) and Hostal Santa Maria (944 722 489) in Portugalete. Also, there's Apartamentos La Arena (946 365 454) in Playa de la Arena and Apartamentos Mugarri (617 038 292) in Pobena. Hope this is helpful.
Or if you're quite fit you might take the metro from Bilbao to Portugalete (a section that the guide says is 'forgettable' anyhow) and walk on to Castro Urdiales!
Have you looked at the caminodesantiago.consumer.es site?
I just noticed that distances between Bilbao and Pobena differ between my guide (22km) and the above site (32km).
Anyone know which is correct?

The guide I have suggests 32km

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

The difference in distances is explained by the fact that you can go from Bilbao to Portugalete two ways: through the "mountains" - what you will find in most guides, or following the river along the very bleak industrial subburbs of the city. Take a right and keep walking straight!

Last May I walked the first part of the Norte in the opposite direction, from Santander to Irun. Since I only had two weeks and couldn't reach Santiago anyway, I wanted to swim against the tide...
I use Alltrails a lot here in the US, in Iceland, on the Via Podiensis and a bit on the CF. Will it be useful on the Norte? For example, people here say the "warm up" from Biarritz to Irun (or...
Tomorrow I fly to Bilbao to start my 5th stint on the Camino. I did the Frances in three parts (2016, 2017 and 2022). Last year I did the Portuguese from Porto. I did the first 200 km of the...
I thought I had this all figured out, but I have ended up with 2 train tickets from San Sebastian (I don't even know if it's the airport or the town) to Irun, instead of ONE that goes all the way...
