I have emailed beilari.aterpea and
L'Esprit du Chemin for availability of a bed prior to my start from SJPDP on 23 September. Any recommendations about which is best or alternatives appreciated. Thus far it looks loke I will be taking the train on the 21st from Paris after staying two nights (19 and 20th) in Paris at Avendiat the Assumptionist hostel to recover after flying from NZ, details of train travel time not clear or settled and it looks loke there may have another night (21st) somewhere since I'm already booked at Orisson for 23rd. Maybe I need a night in Bayonne or two in sjpdp? I want beds booked for the start and then hope to just walk .. Thoughts anyone?

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I would just wing it ;-) The pilgrims office will give you advice on arrival where there are free beds ;-) Buen Camino, SY

Yeah, I’d do that too :) It takes the stress out of getting to the start of walking. After Orisson you can relax and take each day as it comes.

L'Esprit and Beilari are one and the same albergue. L'Esprit du Chemin was sold a few years ago to a wonderful Basque couple who named it Beilari, and they have kept the L'Esprit traditions, which make for a great start to your Camino. www.beilari.info/en I think they allow 2-night stays, or you could stay the first night in the Municipal Albergue and the second night at Beilari, which would give you a full day to explore St. Jean.

I have walked two times, the second time I started in La Puy so I have stayed in ALOT of albergies, I have only stayed at Beilari so I cannot make a comparison. But I can tell you that it is a wonderful place to stay. It is one of the top 5 I have stayed at. Everyone shared a wonderful evening together. First a little get together with everyone telling a little about themselves. After that we enjoyed had just a fantastic dinner. We all sat around and talked. My walking companion, Max and I spent alot of time reassuring and answering questions from new and a little nervous Peregrinos I made a great new friend that I walked with on and off and we are still friends. I live in Mexico now and he is coming to visit me next month. I am walking again this September. I will probably walk the Camino Portugues but if I was doing the Camino Francis this would definitely where I would lay my head in St. Jean.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

That's sounds like a great idea. Actually it's Le Chemin vers l'Etoile, that is the other place that I have had a response from. I cant book Beilari until later this month cos they are on holiday. I will probably do what you suggest since I would be at sjpdp the second day early enough for a bed. Thanks.
