Where to stay two nights in León?

Does anyone have a good experience with a particular hotel/pension/casa in León? I'm planning to stay two nights in León, and I recall that albergues are typically one-nighters. I'd like to leave my pack behind to sightsee during that second day anyway. Closer to old town would be a plus. I hear nice things about the parador, but something closer in would be perfect.

You can stay for two nights in most private albergues. I had two nights in León Hostel one year. In 2019 I spent one night at Globetrotter Hostel, but others were staying longer.

Excellent rooms and breakfast. Sufficiently close to the centre, but far enough away to avoid the noise. Highly recommended.

Also the opportunity to join the sisters for any or all of the daily offices in the attached convent chapel. maybe not everyone’s idea of a good day out but to my surprise, it worked for me.

Attending Mass with the Nuns was really special.
I had flash backs to the movie "Sound of Music" as two of the younger, very enthusiastic Sisters, briefed us and shepherded us into Mass

It has a bit of a Parador feel to it.
It's a working convent and chapel, with part of the building converted to a Hotel.

I wouldn't worry too much about the specific accommodation - but rather the location. I recommend staying close to the Cathedral. There is plenty to do in that area on a rest day. I also love a bathtub to soak my aching muscles on rest days. There are a few private albergues and lots of hotels. I stayed at the Leon Hotel Paris Spa. Nice. Nothing special. But it had a bathtub (not all rooms do) and there were a few other pilgrim friends of mine staying there. Location was great. Beds were comfortable. Rooms were so so. But I think they put the pilgrims in the older/less updated section of the building.

We enjoyed staying at the lovely boutique hotel, Le Petit Leon. It was only a block or so from the cathedral and our room had its own private terrace where we enjoyed relaxing and sipping on wine. It is on a side street that can get busy late at night, but closing the shutters in our room to sleep completely eliminated all of the lively street noise down below our floor room. It is located right on the Camino Frances.

We stay away from the old town and noise at the AC Hotel across from the El Corte Engles. Mexican restaurant down the street, local eateries near that are nontouristy, and stock up at the department store. Old town is an easy walk, and I always have points on my Marriott account to cover the cost.

I stayed at the Hotel Spa Paris in Leon if you want a nice hotel at a reasonable price. Very conveniently located and I thought the hotel rate was a steal. Around the corner is Camarote Madrid, a bar with by far the best bullfighting photos and history of anywhere I saw along the Camino.

I'd also recommend you consider taking the bus into Leon from Mansilla de las Mulas, ala Brierly. It was in a downpour for me so the decision was easy. I made it into Leon early, dropped my pack at the hotel, and made the pre-lunch tour of the Cathedral (going inside is a must).

Very nice and well located with friendly staff, next to albergue and on a square. Great location for exploring. If you’re planning to be there on a weekend, ask first about festivals - there was one in the square when we stayed there - interesting to see but our room faced the square and it went on late into the night along with noise from the bars and deprived us of sleep. The desk clerk told us these festivals were not frequent.

The León parador re-opened last year, I think it was, after several years of renovations. Prices will vary termendously based on dates — February prices for single person over 55 are about €160, in May jumps to €350, and I imagine that summer is higher. I stayed in the old parador on one of my first caminos. In those days, nearly all the rooms (except for special suittes) were in a modern wing along the river. Being in an historic building was quite cool, but in terms of the creature comforts of the rooms, it was up to the standards of a standard four-star hotel. With maybe two exceptions — the sheets are about the silkiest I have ever slept on, and the towels are hugely thick and great for squeezing out your clothes for drying after you’ve washed them.

They have demolished the old “modern wing” and I don’t know what the rooms are like in the new wing, but I would love to hear from a forum member who has stayed there. There was an uproar on social media from those who thought the renovations were inappropriate for such an historic building. See this thread.

I know walking into/out of the bigger cities isn't the most "pleasant" walk - but I am glad I did walked. In fact - I think I walked around 38km into both Burgos and Leon so I could get in a day earlier and then take a rest day. I was tempted to take a bus into Burgos but kept walking and I felt so accomplished when I finally arrived in the city center. Walking into Leon - I had a walking buddy. We helped each other persevere.

I guess you mean "Covent Garden". I stayed there too, in 2017.
Super centrally located, friendly place with a wonderful kitchen.
One just has to be aware, the street below is quite busy until late at night.

Covent Garden Hostel is amazing, great central location. We spent 2 nights there in August. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Alda Casca Antigua, a block away from the cathedral on a quiet, mostly pedestrian alley. Good clean, quiet, rooms, and a fantastic location. It was the heart of Covid in 2021, so they weren't having the breakfast buffet that is now available and getting good reviews.

Sorry for being so terse but I've reached the time of day when my brain doesn't work so well.

It's time to add some more to my original post. I'll only add a bit for the Hospedería Monástica Pax as others have already added lots about it. The nuns also operate an attached albergue. Going to the hotel it will hard to miss the nearby El Grifo restaurant and wine bar on the square. We saw it but gave it a miss due to the prices but went across the square to the Aurea Taberna. This was in 2015 so check out the current prices. All these places are centered around the Fuente del Mercado in the square linked to here.

Now, I've never stayed stayed at a parador nor at the Hotel Real Colegiata San Isidoro but I saw the hotel online and from its description I'm guessing that its atmosphere is much like a parador and it is closer to what you want to see in León. It is next door to the Basilica de San Isidoro. Also next door to the Basilica is its museum. This was the highlight of León for me. Kings and nobles were entombed in the Royal Pantheon under painted vaults described as the Sistine Chapel of the Romanesque. It also has, besides various artifacts, a Renaissance library and a chalice that, although never identified as such before, researchers think may be the Holy Grail.

I spent one night at the Globetrotter hostel, right near the cathedral. It was great. Clean and very comfortable, staff were nice. Small self catering kitchen. Booked it through booking.com . We had friends who booked for two nights, so you should be ok. Good value, too, right in the ❤️ of the city. I would happily stay there again.

In 2009 we asked to stay for 2 nights in the albergue attached to the Benedictine Monastry. They said that for the first night we would be Pilgrims (donativo) and for the second night we would pay a fixed fee (10 Euro).

We stayed 2 nights at Globetrotter last spring. Honestly, it was probably my least favorite albergue. Noise outside in the street and what sounded like a party above but with lots of kids, was horrendous and seemed to go on all night. The windows had been shut because of the noise making it unbearably hot and considering Covid was still making the rounds a lot, this seemed unwise. The showers and toilets were not very clean and the shower made the entire floor wet. At first was happy to have a womens room, but the women were up all night, chatting on their phones and with each other, packing bags at 02:00, leaving their lights on. I could not wait to leave. I had looked forward to this one because of the curtains and pod beds but got so little sleep, I never want to go back there again.
For this spring, had been looking for a place outside of the city center just a bit (read those low rating reviews on booking dot com to find the places that are noisy at night) and hope this next place is good. Staying at "Check-In" in May. Has anyone else stayed here?

In 2015, stayed at the Hermanas Trinitarias and that was simply lovely. Check them out too if you want a quiet, clean, and cheap bed.

Hostal San Martin is very comfortable and clean. walking distance to see the stained glass windows at the Cathedral and 10 minutes from the station. Friendly people.
