Where to stay

Time of past OR future Camino
March 2 through 23, 2020
I am walking from Leon to Santiago March 2020. My husband has feet disabilities and is severely limited in his walking. He is considering riding a bike or busing where I am walking for the day. (Not even sure this is possible. ) but could we stay in Albergues together if he can't walk or bike? Or would be be able to get reasonable private accommodations? Just curious.

Try www.gronze.com for details of all types of accommodation available along the Caminos.

Some Albergues restrict access to walkers, bikers and equestrians, some show little curiosity. Biking might work but relying on public transport will throw up some serious challenges unless you are prepared to use taxis.

Happy planning

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Hi Shiela,
Stand by for a barrow-load of replies:D

If your husband cycles all the time he should be treated like any other pilgrim at any not-for-profit Albergue, i.e. not a private one. Thousands of people cycle every year and use albergues.

If he uses buses there may be a problem using albergues that not private.

That said, walking, cycling, bussing, horse-riding, coach-ridng and car-driving pilgrims often use any and all private albergues if they pay the going price.

I would advise your husband to research the terrain from Leon onwards and use the search facility here for guidance on cycling the route. It may be the case that he will need to use roads rather than follow the "path"

With planning, what you both want to do is possible.

It is getting closer to our March 1st Camno. We leave Texas and arrive in Madrid on morning of March 2nd, then travel to Leon. (Haven't figured out how to book/purchase train or bus tickets) But the exciting news is my husband is going to try and walk it too! He has been doing physical therapy, and is looking forward to the Camino. We have about 20 days, fly back out of Madrid on 24th. Getting excited, and bit nervous. Getting our stuff organized! Thanks for your info!
