Who wants to share rent-a-car from Barcelona to Pamplona

Time of past OR future Camino
I plan on waking the camino in July (2015.)
Hey fellow peregrinos,
I'll be walking Camino Frances in July. However my plane will land in Barcelona on July 5th at 5:30 pm and I might not make it to train station to catch the last train to Pamplona (at 6:35 pm). I really don't like buses (make me sick) plus with the last bus I would be arriving to Pamplona at 4:00 am and won't be able to find accomodation at that time.
Since train ticket is around 50 €, I was thinking maybe few of us can get together and rent a car (hopefully there will be more of you flying in on the same day). I have looked into it and we could get a car from 170 € (and up). I figured if there is 3-4 of us with gas and tolls (I've checked via michelin for that info and it said gas and tolls would be just under 100 €). So if 4 of us will go together it will be around 60 € each which is just a bit more than a train ticket PLUS all the fun of a road trip through Spain and having some fun and getting to know fellow peregrinos before the waking part of the Camino :)))

Let me know if any of you are interested.
Buen camino!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Hi Barbara, welcome on this forum
Car rental is an option often forgotten in the discussions on this site and I can only recommend to take it into consideration. For example, I rented one from SdC to drive to Muxia, Finisterre and back (and the next morning to the Airport "free of charge" because they usually count a day as 24hours). If you share the car with some of your camino family, cost -I paid about €50 plus gas- will be cheaper than buses and leave you free of schedule)
Nevertheless, I would not advise you of driving a rental from Barcelona to Pamplona, because it is a very long and very boring, uneventful way. According to your schedule, you would stay the night after arrival in BCL anyway, so why not enjoy the evening in this fabulous city and take a mid morning train next day? (Recommendable especially if you fly-in from far away)
Have a splendid Camino

PS: For car rentals in Spain, I found always pretty good prices and large choice at www.rentalcars.com

Wow thank you so much for your recommendation. I love driving so I thought it would be fun to do it with other peregrinos. Didn't know that road was boring ha ha good to know though.
And also thanks for idea of renting a car to Fisterra since I wanted to go there but I wasn't sure if I'd have enough time after finishing my camino in Santiago. Maybe like this I would have make it.
I'll try not to spend the night in Barcelona, which is a wonderful city (I've been there a few times) but that's also a reason why I'd like to spend the night in Pamplona even if I arrive late so first thing in the morning would be short trip to SJPdP and begging of my Camino. If I spend the night in Barca I lose half the next day to come to SJPdP and then I can't start my camino till Tuesday. That's way too much time to lose since I have my plane ticket to go back on a particular date.
I'm sure I'll figure something out and an opportunity will arise at some point.
Once again thank you for all your advice.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
For one day? €170 sounds high to me.
I just googled a bit and prices were around that figure. I think the fact the drop of is in another city and it's Sunday why it might be higher than usual.
If you know of a better deal please do share. I'd be very grateful

You're very welcome. This will not really help and might possibly upset your plans of not spending the night in Barca: I just found out that www.vueling.com resumed serving Pamplona on peak-days in July, charging €150 one-way and departing at 15:00h. The idea of a leisurely dinner in Barca AND in Pamplona might just tempt you.....hey, you live only once and there is a long walk ahead of you!
