Who's Kitchen Rules? A bit of Fun

OK don't take this too seriously OK
The aim is not to cause arguments or to have self proclaimed 'foodies' try to educate us on what a good meal really is

It's just a place to share some of the great Camino meals you've had.
And it's about the meal, not the fact that you had a great 'sing song' or met your soul mate over a bottle of vino

Now, a word of warning. I don't think we should take the responses as 'recommendations'.
Meal experiences can quickly change. New owners, new chef, changed menu.
So let the 'buyer beware' !

For example, one of the worst meals we had on the CF this year, was in a restaurant in SdC that is regarded as one of the best in town! I can tell you the tinned spaghetti bolognese in the CR just past O Cebreiro tasted better!
We found out later that the Chef was away, and the owner was cooking that night

So, just saying...........

So that all ranges of meals and venues get an objective ranking, how about we score them?

Perhaps when posting a picture of a favourite meal we (the OP) could give the meal a score out of 50.

Enough meat to feed the greater cats at the Melbourne Zoo.
As far as ratings go they are fairly evident in the expression on Rob's face .
By the way despite appearances he is a very quiet , respectful and thoughtful fellow .

I cooked this bird in a wood fired oven at a bakery across the street for the very small group of Pilgrims that night. Not going to rate myself for taste, looks, value, but only for atmosphere Which was a very solid 10 if not higher.,

I liked very much the Restaurant Sidrería Casa Armendariz, in Viana. Basque peasant food, specialized in beef steak and lamb with mushrooms, good bread and wine. I discover it because a local señor recommended it, when he saw we were hesitant about a good place.
A "sidreria" is a place that sells cider, locally produced.
Navarro Villoslada 15 (that's the main street), Viana.
A bit of general advice about restaurants: in villages, it is common that restaurants have a bar in the entry, with local men talking vehemently about politics or if Real Madrid is better than Barcelona. It is generally a very masculine thing. Don't be afraid, they are polite with strangers and respectful with women, and the restaurants is just behind the bar, with many families enjoying a good meal.

A bit of an aside, but I discovered one of my favorite things in Spain was watching the older local men sidle up to the bar with their newspapers, nipping back their coffee and gossiping, saying good morning to each other. Loved it.

I don’t know if it was because I was at the end of my Camino but I admit having the BEST burger in Santiago, 3 times in as many days. It’s the little cafe across and before the pilgrims office. I drooled over the Galician beef and the thin slice of bacon. Paired with a beer and fries and I was a happy gal.

Albergue Suseia in Zubiri. I kid you not. One of the top three meals on the camino. Owners are gourmet chefs and take turns cooking. Fabulous salad, followed by a fresh gazpacho, a polenta to die for and finally a lemon yogurt whip something that was sublime. We still talk about that meal.
