LIVE from the Camino Willdtrout on the Camino

Time of past OR future Camino
December 2022
Thought I would post an update on the start of my Camino. I left SJPP three days ago and have just arrived in Pamplona.

Beautiful trip but uneventful so far. The only news is that the way to Roncevilles and on to Zubiri has so much snow that we were forced to walk on the main road. One person tried the main trail and post-holed through thigh deep snow for two hours. This added a lot of miles and wear& tear. We rejoined the actual Camino Route in Zubiri and there was some snow and ice but the trail was fine.

Wildtrout,

Thanks for your update on the current state of the CF in the snow. This info surely will be useful for those walking this path in the near future.

In addition to the Valcarlos alternate to Roncesvalles difficult CF stretches after storms could be across the Montes de Oca from Villafranca, Najera to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Monte Irago and, of course, to and from O Cebreiro. Be prepared.

Please do continue to update when you can as you move along.

Keep warm, stay safe and Buen camino!

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
@Willdtrout surfing early morning over coffee and not full awake ... I read "wild trout on the Camino". I have thought about fishing a couple of times and was hoping for detail. 🤣

Anyway still hoping for details and some pics.

¡Suerte!
I’ve heard about large brown trout in Northern Spain. The train from Bayonne to SJPP follows a beautiful river that was begging for my fly. There is a good sports shop in SJPP where I asked about fishing and they said it is good but closed in winter. I have seen a lot of good water in my short time on camino

I too was hoping to hear more about the trout.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
LOL the last few posts reflect what i first thought when I read the title of this thread and wanted to bring my flyrod on my next Camino!

How is your Camino going Wildtrout?

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Haha - I was thinking the same about fishing adventures. While in Burguete last March 29 on my first stop from SJPP, I had a hankering for trucha as I was harkening back to some Hemingway prose. Luckily it was on the menu so I scored it for dinner accompanied by some grilled vegetables. T'was a delight! So although it was late at the end of the day and I had neither the gear nor time to catch my own, I still felt as if I had caught my own dinner!!
