I saw a notice in the public albergue about a private ethnography museum in Aldea del Cano, the Museo the Oficios and Tradiciones and set off to look for it. It was a little bit hard to find, in a private house in Calle Real (look for the round stone planters with flowers in - former horse drinking bowls). You might need to ask a few people which house it is.
The owner Emilio Mariño is a retired colonel in the Guardia Civil and he has made the museum entirely with his own hands. I was blown away by the amazing displays of this village's history, the replica village shop, shoe menders, school room, forge, barn, and post office. All the items were given by the villagers, or are local.
Especially moving is his gallery of photos of all the men from the village who have joined the forces over the last 150 years - the only living ones being himself, and his two sons (Guardia Civil and National Police).
Emilio is a very friendly and highly knowledgeable man who happily gave me a personal tour of his museum. There is no charge for entry but you can make a donation if you like. He is super passionate and if you speak Spanish he will answer all your questions and we had the most wonderful chat about tools and farming (I work in conservation and my dad was a toolmaker).
The museum is open most afternoons, I didn't phone ahead and found it open, but might be better to drop him a text or email: comi2@hotmail.es 699 944 709
