Xacobeo Guides to Short Camino Routes within Galicia

Xacobeo publish a number of online guides for the majority of Camino Routes coming into Galicia. They detail the route with overview maps, brief walking/history notes, photos and Albergue, Town Council and Tourist Information for each Galician Municipality on the route. They may be of interest to anyone considering a short 5-6 day Camino and who wants to compare routes. The Xacobeo web site also has information on the Portuguese Coastal Route, Camino de Invierno and Ruta del Mar de Arousa y Río Ulla.

These are the electronic version of the guides that can be picked up, in various languages, in the local Tourist Offices.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
IMHO these booklets make interesting reading prior to walking one of the routes. They have pretty pictures and are well laid out. However pilgrims report (and I agree) that they are useless for walking any of the routes listed as they have no walking notes, directions to how to find your way in and out of places, where to find the arrows to start each day and although they list the albergues they give no directions to the albergues. Basically these are tourist information leaflets and not written by walkers for walkers. And as tourist information leaflets produced by the Galician tourist organisation they only describe the routes inside the region.

Yeah sorry, I didn't mean to imply that they could be used as a daily guide while walking, but more as a helper to choose what route you may wish to do.

The walking notes are very high level (i.e. describing what towns, places of interest you pass by), they don't give directions. You can get those (on some of the routes) from Johnnie's excellent guides!

Cheers

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hola - thanks. I'm less grumpy now than first thing this morning. The guides to the shorter routes are free just like Xacobeo's leaflets. The latter will give a real feel for the routes but if you are going to walk - get a guide!
