I just wanted to give an update on how to bring a bike from Pamplona to St. Jean.
I bought a $200 bike from decathlon, (think rei or some other sports store) their cheapest hardtail option that seemed decent, and was able to place it in the storage bay below. Didn't even need a bag.
We've been staying mostly on the actual camino, taking the road when there's too many Pellegrinos and the bike itself has held up. It's not quite as light as my bike back home but it gets the job done.
I've also never had a problem at an alburgue taking in bikes.
