I have a problem. My Merrell Chameleon arc boots have worn soles, so I purchased a pair of Merrell Azura which are really comfortable. However the ankle support is not as good and my ankle has been sore from wearing them. Now we go on 15 August so not much time. I do have a pair of leather Meindl boots which are fine (did Himalayas in them) but they are quite heavy and warm, so I would prefer Merrell. Can anyone suggest a boot which has a high cut for ankle support - I have trawled the internet and found Merrell Daria but am not sure if these are a higher cut and better ankle support than the Azura.

Any help please? Thank you so much - getting nervous now.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hola

Try look at Scarpa boots.
They are not cheap but it is premi quality and last a long time.
I am myself a Meindl learher boot person and depending on what model you are using, it will probably be to warm for August in Spain.
Although the general advice with equiptment is, in my opinion, to go what workes for oneself.

Buen Camino

I walked the Camino Frances with leather Meindl boots. They are very comfortable on my feet, but they were far too heavy and the soles were too stiff. My shoes were almost always the heaviest on the boot rack at the Albergues. I would recommend wearing the lightest shoes you can get away with depending on the support you need.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

The obvious answer would be to get another pair of Merrell Chameleon Arcs if they worked well for you ... or are they discontinued? Failing that, please don't forget you need good shock absorption too. If you need ankle support, get some mids or boots with the right amount - but there are lots of tarmac kilometers and you need to cushion your heel and sole. Stiff and hard soles can really ruin your walk. Salomon do some fantastically springy boots, and so do Merrell, but others will recommend other makes.

In the end only your foot can tell you which one is right, but I would maybe check Amazon for a new pair of Chameleons so you know what you get. Best of luck and buen camino!

I walked in comfortable Blundstones ... My feet were dry and blister free. Dry and blister free works for me. Altho more shock absorption might be nicer. I thought scarp a were the boot but just not right for me. I only have a few weeks til I return to Camino as I only walked 550 km... Gotta commit to some footwear!! Tough choices.

What is so annoying is that they have discontinued Chameleon arcs that I have. Has anyone got the Merrel Siren ventilator mid gtx mxr - they look good and look like they have good support plus good shock absorption.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Shauna,

I have made 178 miles today - in Burgos - wearing a very light boot with a good snug ankle support made by Ahnu. Couldn't be happier with them and no blisters...took advice and wear a smart wool sock with silk liner. Burn camino
