might consider turning off the water to your washer. i went on a backpacking trip long ago and came home to about 3 to 4 inches of water throughout my house. when they changed the washer they used the old hose and it broke while i was gone.

What inspires you for the physical aspect of the Way?

I have been incredibly inspired by so many stories of loss, pain, diagnosis, or other stories that tug at my heart strings, but one pilgrim, since lost in the threads here, was an 83 year old man who had walked the Camino many times, but his last post was that he wasn't likely to make the next...

What pushed or invited or drew you to set off for 'The Camino'?

My wife and I had returned from a wonderful trip in Europe and I saw a movie being advertised on our streaming application. Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez in "The Way". It was not earth shattering or life changing, but we thought what a really neat way to see another part of Europe and we were...

Nervous about going alone, without my partner

Think of nervousness as excitement instead. change your point of view and listen to the replies to your prayers. open mind, open heart, and excitement is a wonderful mixture of what it is to be alive! Buen Camino!

May-June Camino Frances - Rain Gear & Eating ware

my office is similar, REI is my friend. I have changed it from a room for studying to a room for adventures. I have packed, unpacked, repacked, and rearranged over and over, as well as hiked with my pack to see how it loads, and what I can do with and what I can do without. i know i am...

And we are off! to a roaring start!

Well, maybe not. My plans are to leave for France on May 4th, stay overnight in Paris, train to St. jean, and begin the Camino! and Thursday I came down with covid. and yes, it did indeed put me flat on my back. but? thanks to medical intervention I am on the mend. 4 lbs lighter, but i can live...

    1st May at SJDP , anyone ?

I would train, then pay attention to how your pack feels on your back and learn how to load it where it doesn't feel lopsided. and do as many kilometers as you can, to test fit, and prepare your body for a long walk... I have been training for a few weeks, 5-6 miles a day with pack just to get a...

    Bar Etiquette

Thank you all for this information! I am starting the Camino on the 7th of May if all goes as planned. (And if you want to hear God laugh? Tell him your plans). that aside, I am beginning to study and listen to some basic Spanish, learning enough to be courteous... I honestly hadn't thought...

    Camino Dating

It would appear we are in the same club. Lost my first wife in 2001, reconnected with my high school sweetheart 2 years later and had the absolute best years of my life, but she finally passed last year in 23. Both to cancer. For me? The Camino is a new chapter, and I am framing it as a "new...

What exercises to do to strengthen lower back?

That is inspiring! 62 slowly getting into yoga and walking both with and without fully loaded pack. trying to simulate the hike and test my gear. practice helps find weak spots that might be hard to deal with in Spain.

    Ultra lightweight backpack--worth it?

in my experience, an ounce can count. and i have NO experience with long hauls such as the Camino. Not 500 miles. 30 miles or so in the Winds and 25 miles or so in Washington. a lot of elevation climb. and i have packed as light as i feel comfortable packing. I expect the first day to discover...

What exercises to do to strengthen lower back?

I am training myself. I hope to begin hiking the 7th of May.
