New Day By Day Baggage Transport on Via Francigena

I must have touched a nerve here and it's unfortunate that your unable to accept my apologies. I won't comment on your characterization of me. The positive in my remarks (challenge yourselves) were addressed to other pilgrims who might read your advertisement for a "baggage transfer service"...

New Day By Day Baggage Transport on Via Francigena

My apologies for the misunderstanding and, perhaps, my poor choice of words!! With that in mind look for the positive in what I said, not the negative!! You posted a link for pilgrims who were interested in using a "baggage transfer service" and my comments were related to that. I believe...

New Day By Day Baggage Transport on Via Francigena

I understand your wife's predicament but pilgrims should look at carrying just what they need as one part of doing a pilgrimage!! Challenge yourselves and carry just what you need!! That shouldn't prove to be too difficult but if it is walk a few less kms. per day. Gook Luck!!

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Too many "pilgrims"!!! The route has become more than just a walking trail!!! It's something for everyone!! "Bring your ebike!!" Pilgrims know this before they start so they shouldn't complain. There are many other wonderful routes that pilgrims can walk but I suppose if one likes following...

To those who brought a tent: How do I keep the total weight down?

Don't carry tent pegs, use what you can find around your camp site, i.e. sticks.

Walking with a messenger bag rather than a backpack

I believe that the key to carrying a backpack effortlessly is to arrange it so that all the weight, in the pack, is carried on your hips, not above your hips but "attached" to your hips with the pack hip belt. The straps on your pack are only used to ensure that the pack doesn't fall backwards...

    Theft at Roncesvalles

Thanks for your comments!! I'm like you, I'm careful but trusting as I believe 99%+ of the people I run into, especially other hikers, are worthy of my trust!! I'm 67, I have hiked and travelled extensively and I've never had a bad experience!!

    Poles or No Poles?

I'm 67, I've hiked, backpacked, climbed and led groups in Western Canada since I was in my teens. I have never used poles and I honestly don't see the need for them for individuals who are fit and don't have STABILITY issues. Until recently, during my 50+ years in the outdoors, the only times I...

    Booking return flights!

I've never been asked and I've flown dozens of times!

    Booking return flights!

It's not a problem!! I'm always booking one way tickets!!

    Booking return flights!

    That's never been an issue!!!

    Booking return flights!

Your on the right track!! Now your not pressured to meet some arbitrary deadline and you have the flexibility to stay longer or return earlier. Sometimes it costs a little more to fly one way but often it's cheaper. Be somewhat flexible with your departure point. Also if something unexpected...

The Camino walker and the biker. 🤣

I also had a young child run in front of the bike ahead of me. That bike braked, I crashed into it, fell and got a concussion. It could have been worse if I wasn't wearing a helmet!!

Advice on walking Le Puy to Cahors in April

I've have walked this Camino twice, most recently in the beginning of Sept 2022 when a lot of pilgrims start walking. I never pre booked any accommodation and I never had any difficulty finding a place to stay!! On occasion I booked a day ahead. As you will be starting in April you will have...
