Current volume of pilgrims on Salvador?

This is a wonderful Camino! Make sure you get Ender's guide - there are some small villages where you need to call a day ahead to make sure they have food for you (e.g., Pajares). Also, Poladura de la Tercia's lone restaurant used to be closed on Tuesdays (though I don't think that should be an...

    Stomach Bug on Meseta

The part that still doesn’t add up for me is why it frequently seems to pop up in the same place - Carrion de los Condes or thereabouts?

    Stomach Bug on Meseta

Interesting! We were in Hontanas September 28, 2018, Carrion Sept. 29, and then 5 of 6 got sick and barely made it to Ledigos. We were never able to pinpoint what the problem could have been, but there's a lot of smoke for there to be no fire there (IMO). Feel better!

    Norte-San Salvador-Primitivo

Sounds like a great plan! You’ll be plenty warmed up by the time you reach León. The San Salvador can be walked in 4-6 days (day one will determine if you can do less than five). Also, if you’re pressed for time and physically ready for it, I walked from Lugo-SdC in 3 days (about 35km/). It was...

Second thoughts on completing del Norte

If I were you…I would try something different to begin, and see if it fits your needs for this Camino. There are so, so many to choose from that I would start somewhere new. If you find you don’t like it and you are wanting/needing what feels more comfortable, more familiar, or has more of a...

    Wi Fi and Phone signal.

I walked the San Salvador in 2022 and 2023. I never lost cellular coverage. It’s very well marked (and Ender just walked it and made sure of this). Be sure to get his guide (Google it). This is my favorite Camino combination. The San Salvador is quiet, though you should have pilgrims to spend...

Where would you start a Camino in a few days, and why?

You beat me to it! Huge San Salvador/Primitivo combo fan here. I was just thinking about it again this morning. The most beautiful walk through the mountains - yes, you need to be ready for ups and downs. Someone else's line is, "The Primitivo...there's always a hill." But, it's completely worth...

Lightweight Blankets for Walking the Camino

Exactly. But as noted, it's noisy. Also, someone made the very good point that it traps all the moisture. So, it's a no-go!

Lightweight Blankets for Walking the Camino

I wonder whether one of the heat wraps that get distributed to runners at the end of a race would work well? Has anyone tried tucking one into a liner? Super lightweight, but their ability to keep in the heat is crazy. I suppose it could be a little noisy if you roll around.

    Albergue in Pola de Gordón!

Forgot about that one - that makes sense!

    Albergue in Pola de Gordón!

Intriguing, though I’m not sure how many pilgrims stop in this town? It makes for a very long day from León, or two short days (and I’m not sure where you’d stop and stay before La Robla?). But, it certainly expresses confidence in the growing popularity of this magnificent Camino!

    Recommended phone apps (iOS)

Maybe try it again after you get to Spain? I kind of recall getting something similar when I downloaded it a few years ago.

    Recommended phone apps (iOS)

I have fortunately never had to use it, but my understanding is AlertCops will get you directly to an English-speaking officer, whereas 112 would not - this would be critical in a time of need. Buen Camino, and I hope this is all just over-planning!

Starting on the Camino Frances, not sure which route to take into Santiago (san salvador / primitivo versus invierno)

These are the stages with the towns I started/stopped. So, As Seixas (the municipal is practically attached to the private albergue that I stayed in and looked just as nice); As Quintas (Heidi's Place was a highlight!); then in to Santiago. I did make reservations for these last few nights when...

Starting on the Camino Frances, not sure which route to take into Santiago (san salvador / primitivo versus invierno)

Don't worry about getting lost on the SS!!! Ender was just on the trail re-marking the way. In fact, he posted photos/videos on the SS FaceBook group showing where some people might get confused. It's a beautiful, beautiful hike through spectacular mountains.
