My wife and daughters and I walked longer stages between Lisbon and Porto, but took days off in between, which was a wonderful way to experience Portugal, as well as a great way for our bodies to recover and our feet to adjust to walking longer distances than what we got to practice at home...
I certainly don't regret spending the extra time and rest days in SJPP, Pamplona, Burgos and Leon. There was so much to see and experience (as well as eat) in those places!
I stayed at Albergue Suseia in Zubiri (June '23) and it was one of my favorite Albergues on the Camino Frances. Sara, the owner, was our host and made us feel so at home. She greeted us with homemade lemonade, and had rolled up newspaper for our wet shoes (it had rained over the Pyrenees). The...
This. I'm always surprised by the negative comments about this section. My family and I fell in love with Portugal and were so glad we started in Lisbon. Yes, we had some long (and hot August) days, but this was a pilgrimage and one that we came to value so very much.
I will be arriving too late to take the daily bus so I have opted for a transport company. There is room for 2 to 3 other pilgrims if anyone would like to share this with me. I'm hoping to leave Pamplona around 2:30 pm. You can respond here on the forum on connect with me on WhatsApp...
Yes, this helps a lot. It is nice to know the schedule and that will most likely preclude trying to find access to watch the game with locals. It would have been fun to have watched the European Champion's League while in Europe, but I'm definitely more focused on the experience at the albergue...
May sound like a silly question but I'd love input from those who have had the experience staying at the San Juan Bautista Albergue in Granon. I would really like to stay here and have been intentional about including this in my itinerary. I will be there on June 10th, the same evening as the...
Yes, this for me as well.
Knowing I have a bed x amount of kms down the road at the end of the day provides three things for me:
1) I can be more present during my daily walk and not worried about finding lodging. I don't need that anxiety in the background of my day.
2) I can take more...
I just found a new app yesterday thanks to Nancy Reynolds and her podcast "You on the Camino." Though I haven't tried it on the Frances yet it is designed like Camino Ninja which I used last year on the Portuguese (and is no longer available due to the owner's passing). The new app is called...
I and my family are huge coffee lovers. In fact, I roast my own coffee beans so that we have the freshest coffee available. While on the Portuguese Camino last year with my wife and two daughters we marveled at the great espresso pours that were available all throughout our pilgrimage. It made...
Hi fellow pilgrims! I am curious what others have done when they have walked past Santiago to Finisterre. Did you get your credential once you first arrived in Santiago or did you come back to the Pilgrim's office after coming back to the city after completing your trip to Finisterre?
