I am 4 days behind you. There IS no bed race. It seems to me so far that this is a less trafficed (!) Camino than usual. It seems, however, that there is a larger portion of panicked firsttimers.

To me the most Dangerous stage on the Camino Frances was from Foncebadon to Ponferrada in the rain.
Never forget the riverbed rocks from El Acebo to Ponferrada totally treacherous, seen several injuries sprained or broken ankles on route...
I always have nuts, raisins, an apple, cheese, bread. Water, water water!!! It was a very hot day when I walked the Hospitales and I ran out. The last two hours of that long stretch without any way to fill up were tough!
Ok, loving the stream, and lots of good advice. Although I'd prepare for an angry farmer if you choose to glean from his herds, and fires are generally frowned upon... 😉
The one thing you * won't* find on the Primitivo within 5km of Hospitales...
