so my daughter got treated in a small emergency room in Astorga for a bad blister. Like you said just a Dr and nurse and no way for them to give us a bill. We offered to pay but they refused any money. Now we did have to give them my daughters address. We live in the USA. No travel insurance...
fitting shoes, good socks, pre tape sensitive area's on feet, stretch before walking. Yes my feet ache too after 15 km at home. As they do on the Camino. However somehow on the Camino 15 km seems not as far as 15 km at home. Way more interesting. That being said, during my first Camino I was...
I agree 200%
Walked in Scotland (The West Highland Way) walked in the USA some parts of the PCT....but,,,Just LOVE the CF :) I just get happy thinking about it ,,,,and yay going again in 8 days .:)
I am lucky enough that my husband joined me last year....just for a week...but due to that , he understands my love for the Camino. My hope is that people are always willing to try the unknown. Certainly at the age I am. Life is going fast....better enjoy it to the fullest :)
Jeez.....what a post ha ha. I am leaving in 8 days and for the first time ever....NO prep. I and going to wing it. I broke a toe badly 5 weeks ago and it's finally healing to the point I feel comfortable starting to walk. But aside from a few 3 mile walks with my pack, that will be it this time...
I love the "village to village : guide book. Find it fun to go back over and over again while home to decide on stages I will walk and have found it very helpful. Actually ordered my 2nd one there my 1st one was worn after 3 camino's. ps I think you don;t need a guide book for directions....the...
I had 22 days my first Camino. We started in Pamplona and skipped the Meseta. We walked the rest. It absolutely gave us a "complete Camino feel". I've been back twice since and have walked from SJPP and leaving in 2 weeks for the 4th time and will finally get to the Meseta. So....what I am...
Yes if you're arrive in Spain from Europe and not from far and have a jet lag. If you fly in from far, I would spend a night in SJPP and then start walking. It's a nice town to spend a few hours and refuel on some sleep if needed before the walk. Buen Camino
Ive used leukotape P for 3 camino's and have been blister free. Trick is to take every morning 10 minutes to put it on carefully without wrinkles ( i put 2 strips on heels and tape the outer 2 or 3 toes and tape the ball of my feet) and add during the day if you feel a hot spot coming up right...
Never loose much. Walked 3 times and it's usually 2 to 4 lbs. And once home they will be back in a heartbeat. For me being in Spain , the food is part of the fun so I enjoy all. I am 5'9 and 170/175 lbs and 56 years old. Given up dieting at age 50, there I end up back at the same weight no...
ah great info for me. I broke my 4th toe (the one next to pinky toe) 2 1/2 weeks ago and will leave for my 4th Camino in 4 weeks. It still hurts but is getting a bit better every day and I am buddy taping it now and will just not do any practice walks for another 3 weeks. I am not worried about...
Yes injuries happen. I had severe Plantar F after finishing my first Camino. It took months to clear it. But it did on it's own. The Camino is an unusual physical demanding trip so not surprising sometimes we get injured. And yes if needed have a Dr check it out. Leaving for my 4th Camino in 4...
I personally prefer the following guide book over Brierley :
A Village to Village Guide to Hiking the Camino De Santiago: Camino Frances: St Jean - Santiago - Finisterre
by Anna Dintaman and David Landis.
Used it 3 Camino's now and LOVE it.
Hardest: decent into Acebo. I took the road decent...
