Anxious debate with myself about the Camino

That said, don't quit everything right now, but take a month/6 weeks and do the camino! Do it all, every step, and then lie on your back and watch the sunset at Finisterre and ask yourself again, what next? I'll bet there will be better answers.

Anxious debate with myself about the Camino

I could have written this myself, right now... And I have done the Camino. Loved it so much I've done it 3 times now, and my feeling after the last one was that my greatest mistake was coming back at all. But is that true? I don't see anyway of knowing. I could quit my job and sell my flat...

Frances vs. Via De La Plata Average Daily Distances?

I've done both... Distances on the VdlP are longer, as others describe above. I was able to make some shorter days out of long stretches, but then the days were too short. I'm happy with 20-25km, and found myself needing to choose between 11-15km and 35+ on some days. If you can find a way to be...

    Swimming on the Via?

The Baños Arabe in Sevilla! One of the best two hours of my life. Really. And it was quiet enough that I got some of its beautiful pools to myself.

    Swimming on the Via?

I can vouch for the baths in Banos de Montemayor. Lovely hillside town, with the proper spas. One of them has a pilgrim rate. For 3.50 euro each we got terry towel robes, slippers, towels, changing cabin, and two hours in the warm pool. They even found a swimsuit for me that fit. Not the hot...

Two pilgrims lost and found in SJPP-Roncesvalles

Update on the pilgrims who got lost: an interview. They turn out kind of awesome... they finished the Camino despite health issues. http://www.thelocal.es/20160905/lost-british-couple-camino-santiago From the article: "For within hours of setting off on Saturday morning along the well-trodden...

    Please... Seriously Need Shoe Help

Such a useful video. Not least because I own those exact boots, and saw lots more Vasques racked up in the albergues.

Two pilgrims lost and found in SJPP-Roncesvalles

Admittedly, The Pilgrimage was first published in 1987, so the Camino would have barely been known then... He did it in old sneakers and took a sword.

Two pilgrims lost and found in SJPP-Roncesvalles

I wonder if they were following Paulo Coelho's route? In his book, The Pilgrimage, he leaves St Jean and meets his mysterious guide, Petrus. Together they walk the Camino in the Pyrenees for a week, never meeting another person. They eat only fish and fruits of the mountains, and he's cold even...

LIVE from the Camino Lost in Santiago

You have several weeks now open to do what you want, and you're traveling light. A beach and a book, yes, but maybe also some volunteer work? Not with pilgrims tho. Any chance you could show up somewhere there are refugees in need and just pitch in?

Getting worried about a June Camino

I did the Camino in 2007 and 2009. Getting beds was a problem. Quite the race on some days, hostels filling up before noon. Did from Astorga to Santiago May 2015 and it was fine. Perfect. So many new places have opened that I could walk as long as I wanted, stop when I wanted. There was always...

    Linen as a towel

I took a flour-sack tea towel each time, kind of like linen. Very absorbent, very light, dries fast, washed it frequently. Can't stand microfibre. Did appreciate proper bath towels when available!

LIVE from the Camino (Nearly) Live Updates Via de la Plata February > Abril 2016

<quote>Way Puebla de Sancho Perez – Zafra Well marked until you get to the entrance of Zafra, then the yellow arrows disappear mysteriously. I reached, after crossing the railway tracks, the main road into Zafra and followed it obediently into town where I soon found a yellow arrow pointing to...

"You talk too much about the Camino"

My backpack is ready! When I got home I did just what you do on the Camino. Washed clothes, tended feet, ate, showered, prepared pack for the next day's walk. It's just kind of a long few rest days until I'm off again. ❤️

"You talk too much about the Camino"

The Camino is always with me. I think every day about my walk, and walking again. But I shut up about with friends and family...mostly. No subject is fun for other people if overdone. Be glad he told you, instead of just gritting his teeth in silence. Maybe after sometime in peace he can tell...
