The Way: how do you feel about THE movie?

Not really. If you've never been, it doesn't matter. It's only after you go you pick up on the difference.

The Way: how do you feel about THE movie?

In 2015, my wife was almost killed in a car accident (some of you are aware of it - a large tree fell on her car while driving). Four months later, when she finally came home, I suggested we watch "The Way" (I had seen it before, but she was never interested). After watching the movie, she said...

Listening to music while on the camino

I reckon I'm an outlier. I have an iPod Nano that I brought and actually listened to while walking (and I'll do so on my next Camino). Of course, my all time favorite "get in the mood for the Camino" songs is New Slang by The Shins (courtesy of the movie soundtrack for "The Way"). I also used...

Camino Eats for the Solo Vegan [Paid]

Hola a todos, I just revamped the book, adding metric measurements for those that live anywhere other than the USA :) As a reminder, if you want a free digital version, let me know (but if you purchase the book through Ivar's link, he gets a small commission).

    Water Filter?

    But many do :-)

    Water Filter?

Trust me. When it's 40C outside, with no shade other than your hat, you go through a lot of water fast.

    Water Filter?

I've done the first leg of the CF from SJPdP to Roncesvalles. If doing it again, I would definitely carry two liters of water. Once past Valcarlos on the low route, or Orisson on the Napoleon route, there are very few places to fill up (one non-potable water fountain on the low route and a food...

Ingenious (to me) water bottle solution : )

I did something similar, but just used a combo of a rigid tube into the bottle inserted into a flexible tube that went from the bottle to the top front of the pack where I could drink from it. No nipple to bite on (which sometimes led to water dribbling down my chest when I let go of the tube)...

    Pyrenees in May

We crossed the Pyrenees in early May. Definitely layer (I had merino wool baselayer, a fleece shirt, and a raincoat - possibly another long-sleeve shirt, along with a wool skull cap, ball cap, glove liners, and fingerless gloves). The weather can be nice or crappy. For example, when we crossed...

    Camino patch

We made this patch for my wife - she sewed it on her pack just before leaving.

    Deodorant Preferences

Combine a crystal stick with merino wool t-shirt (or shirt) is an unbeatable anti-stink combo (along with the shower before application and donning, of course). I tried a crystal stick before my first camino (I'm one of those that is chemically sensitive) and found it worked wonderfully. As to...

    Cookwear lunchkit necessity?

Carla, attaches is a PDF (it's about 12 MB) of my cookbook. Free to all digitally.

Warm up with a homemade Caldo Gallego soup

Here's an interesting way to strip kale

Warm up with a homemade Caldo Gallego soup

I have a recipe for Vegan caldo gallego I used on the Camino (all one needs to do is add chorizo, ham, whatever, to make it more authentic). It's available in my vegan cookbook for peregrinos (I believe I have a free e-book version posted somewhere here - if not, check the Vegetarians and Vegans...

Packing Toiletries for Lightweight Travel on the Camino de Santiago

Along with toothpaste and a toothbrush, I'd recommend dental floss (also useful for minor equipment repairs). As one who is chemically sensitive (particularly to odors, such as perfume, cologne, detergent, etc.), I carry a mineral deodorant stick...
