I walked from Lisbon to Fatima in 2017. It was an easy route to follow having both blue arrows to Fatima & yellow arrows to Santarem. Definitely some road walking but it was easy enough. The split at Santarem was clear & only blue arrows from then on to Fatima. One hill, I think the day before...
112 also is an emergency help number now around most of the world. I know in the Antipodes 112 ranks with the regular emergency numbers used in New Zealand & Australia, different numbers in each country. 112 for both countries is less confusing IMO.
Glenda Mac, I walked my first two Caminos, Lisbon to Fatima, & Porto to Santiago, after a huge amount of training on Mt Coot-Tha. The tracks there are marvellous for training for the Camino. There are the easier, kinder trails to start with, then you can proceed through the different grades of...
On my first Camino I met a Frenchman who spoke 6 languages & none of them were English. We then met an Italian woman who spoke both French & English so that problem was solved.
I agree about the climb before Minde. It is very steep, rocky, etc. The chicken wire fence alongside was the only reason I made it up there, using the fence to pull myself upwards. Look for the nearest road up to the saddle instead. The rocky path down to Minde we decided was too dangerous & we...
Hello Ali@59:
I virtually followed a woman who has recently walked the Camino Madrid. HeyRobin can be found on YouTube. She did a post for each day & it was really interesting as I’m planning to walk it next year. She was walking in the first heatwave.
I walked from Vila do Conde to Rates using the Brierley guidebook in 2017. As you walk into VdeC turn right at the Convent & walk along the river. No problem, walked it in one day.
When I was walking Hadrian’s Wall in 2019 there were hunters on one section of the trail. Fortunately I knew they had seen me & kept walking but they did stay on the hunt. I could hear the gunshots & I felt most uneasy. So glad to get further away.
Haha, not flying is a luxury you can afford on your side of the world. There are no trains between the Antipides & the rest of the world. Planes or those expensive cruise ships are Antipodeans only options. So you can sit back feeling good about your green choices because you have choices. Lol!
The public libraries in Portugal are very helpful. If you go there in the morning when they should have fewer borrowers I’m sure you could work something out. Talk to the library staff, ask for suggestions from them.
SioCamino, thanks for this. I’ve watched the first day to Jaca so far. This looks like a great route with plenty of interesting sights along the Way. I didn’t find the music intrusive at all, I did find some of it danceable, lol.
Again thanks for posting.
