Hi Fellow Pilgrim, I walked from September 8th through October 14th last year. As I read through the comments others have offered I found myself thinking, with a smile, of a response a veteran had offered to a question about the weather (unfortunately, I can't remember who): "The weather will...
Hi there fellow pilgrim, Folks will think what they will. My wish for you :-) ... Let the "advice" fall to the floor; celebrate your own strength and wisdom; and allow the journey ahead and the kindness of those you meet to assist you in making the right decisions for you as you set off on a...
Hi Garangy, When I first mentioned my desire to walk the Camino, my husband wasn't full of enthusiasm. Not negative. Just not enthusiastic. I was to travel with my daughter (thus the picture here), but a sudden change in the health of this until-then very healthy man prevented us going at...
Hi Bill,
Just a note to say I hope you and your wife enjoy the planning as much as the journey itself. As a first-timer last September/October I relied so much on the kind of advice you've already received from those who have walked before. Though I'm now home (west coast of Canada), a part...
Me again :-). If you haven't already booked something in St Jean ... I can heartily recommend l'Esprit du Chemin. Again, booking sooner than later is best. The welcome pilgrims receive there is memorable for so many reasons ... hospitality, kindness, excellent meals (dinner and breakfast)...
Hi there - like others, I'd recommend contacting them now. You're in for a wonderful treat! :-) My night in Orisson in early September (2013) was a wonderful start to the Camino and to friendships that saw me through to Santiago ... and continue to brighten my days now that I'm home.
See you there!
I like the saying that appears under your name. A variation on that theme has become a mantra for me ... even as I walk around the house thinking of those first two days especially. Joan, I keep telling myself: Step at a time ... just keep thinking a step at a time. :-)...
Hi there, I'll be behind you by a day (over-nighting in St. Jean on the 7th and in Orisson on the 8th). Here's wishing you all good things as you prepare for your departure. Sending you greetings from Comox (Vancouver Island). Joan
Hi there ... I, too, am setting foot on the Camino for the first time around the same time you are. In a few minutes, I'm heading out the door with backpack to do a training session in the beautiful Comox Valley (Vancouver Island, BC). May your preparations go smoothly. Perhaps we'll meet...
Re: Just returned from the Camino....Advice to others 60+ years
Hi Alan, Greetings from Comox. Noticed you'll be starting out on September 8th ... as will I. Perhaps our paths will cross. In the interim, wishing you peaceful moments of anticipation.
I am so enjoying the sense of calm I'm experiencing as I await my September 5th departure from Vancouver, Canada. I look forward to meeting those who plan to put feet to path in St. Jean a few days later. I had planned to share this experience with my daughter last year. However, my husband...
Hi Kristy, Another Vancouver "girl" here who is planning to put boots to ground in September. Perhaps we'll meet. In the interim ... enjoy the preparation ... physical and otherwise. (You'll see from the photo that I've taken some liberties with the definition of "girl". :0)
Hi Natalie,
Perhaps our paths will cross on the Camino during September/October. Here's wishing you well as you continue planning and then ... fulfilling !!! ... your dream of walking the Camino. Sending you good wishes from the west coast of Canada. Joan
