I think if it is really hot, you should stop earlier in the day. If you are not booking, you will have the flexibility and you don't have to go all the way to Los Arcos .. You might ask if anyone (another pilgrim) wants to go the alternate route...

If you can't find second hand or donated poles go to Caminoteca before going to Decathlon. It is around the corner from the muni and the owner and staff are great. He can use your money alot more than Decathlon which is a very large chain. I...

Not sure I understand, but there's no pilgrim office in Pamplona. You might check a few albergues to see if poles (edit: not piles) have been left in the donation bin. Otherwise, try Caminoteca or Decathlon in Pamplona for a new set of poles.
