I just completed the last 500 km of the via Francigena from Sarzana to Rome March 29 to April 22). My first surprise was how quiet it was. On the trail I met nobody! Only at hostels did we (my 2 friends and I) meet a few people. The second remark is how few lodgings there were. We followed Sandy...
Some years ago I walked with a group of friends from Melrose Abbey (where the bones of Robert the Bruce are buried) to Lindisfarne. Because we were a group we rented a place and with shuttle cars we returned back home every evening until the last day. We crossed the bay in bare feet to...
Happy birthday Martin. I really enjoyed the whole series of West Wing and of course The Way which encouraged me to walk the Way myself and it transformed my life....
Thank you Tom; info much appreciated. I take the train so as stop in Paris to visit family; also train allows poles while plane is always "iffy". Will follow your links regarding bus time table. Again many thanks.
Thank you. I live in the U.K. but travel by train to Paris and then? Thanks for the tip of train to Decazeville and also to Rodez. So I can either start on Decazeville or take a bus from Rodez to Conques. All sounds good. Thanks.
I walked Le Puys to Conques in June 2017 in 9 days and very hot weather. I would like to continue but am not sure how to get to Conques except retracing my step and catching a bus from LePuys to Conques in order to start there. Any thoughts on this? Thank you.

At Decatlon they cost 5 euros a pole, I.e. 10 euros for a pair but in addition you must get the rubber cork for the end so that your stick does not get caught in paving stones(as mine did on the Portuguese) or you can buy those corks at home beforehand. Check the Decathlon website before you...
Gorgeous! I was in Santiago on a Spanish course in 1995 before scaffolding so was quite shocked when I completed my first Camino in 2016. I am looking forward to seeing the beautiful cathedral all cleaned up on my next Camino this September. Thank you Ivan for sharing those photos.
Am planning to walk the Camino Portuguese in September 2018 and I would like to leave my sleeping bag home and just take my silk liner. Will all albergues provide blankets both on Coastal and inland route? Marie Christian
I didn't bother with rope or strings and on the Camino lost a garment tied with a clothes pin, so I replaced the clothes pin with a safety pin and had no problem afterwards. Also I am a light sleeper so ear plugs are an essential for me (and for many people due to snoring in the dorm), as well...
