    Descent into Molinaseca

Please don't say 'you (all) can do it.' As I said earlier in my post I have an arthritic knee and that descent would have been dangerous for me. Yes, there may be an alternative lovely, non-dangerous path but I did not know of it - and judging by this thread, nor do many others. Why has it not...

    Descent into Molinaseca

The first time I walked it was in the opposite direction after a rainy night. 'Thank God I am doing this going up' I thought to myself. I then did it going down several years later. 'Never again' I told myself. So in 2015 and this year, I walked Al Acebo to Molinaseca on the road. It is 2 kms...

Albergue Acommodation Ponferrada to O'Cebriero for those on a slim budget

just a warning to others travelling currently on a tight budget. Many of the municiple albergues are closed in this stretch. The large donativo in Ponferrada is open. Albergue Medina in Camponaraya closes on a Tuesday as does Albergue Molino in Cacabelos. In Villafranca the municipal was closed...

Women out there - Deuter backpack

I have tried a range of rucksacks over time. At 1 point I was very fixed in what I wanted from the 'sack - side pockets where I stored my towel and other stuff etc. Then at an outdoor shop (I mean a specialist shop selling camping/hiking equipment) a staff member persuaded me to forget about the...

Current food/drink prices on the Camino Frances, and Trail Angels

Last year I walked from Fromista to Astorga (very short daily distances due to bad knee). My average daily spend was €21. I'm budgeting a daily spend of €25 this year. I stayed in refugios and self catered where I could. And yes I found it more expensive than I expected but understood why. The...

Longest sections of Camino Frances without facilities

I walked this stretch last year in May. There were 2 places where a mobile van type thing was selling drink and probably light refreshments - I didn't know of their existance prior to walking and ironically I stopped to rest and have a snack just on the side of the road about 30 meters before...

Is pre-booking accommodation the new normal?

This is perhaps slightly off-topic but has anyone had experience with an app called STAYmyway? I normally do not book ahead and also always carry my backpack though with advancing years and arthritis in the knee, this may have to change. Like others on this forum I feel each person's Camino is...

    Concerned

I believe the parochial albergue in Carrion is open - you cannot book there but if you arrive early enough you will get a bed as it cannot be booked in advance. I stayed there several days ago at Albergue Espiritu Santo though I did not book in advance

    Concerned

"Now - in just about every town there are a certain amount of beds that cannot be reserved." This was true before COVID but as I posted in another thread, I have experienced a problem whereby many of the municipal albergues are not open - these are the ones you cannot book.

    Great albergue Camino Frances

On the subject of albergues on the Camino Frances, in the stretch between Fromista and beyond Leon, many (thought not all) municipal albergues are still closed.

LIVE from the Camino @Kalimera on the Francés

Can anyone tell me where that is or its name. I'm due to walk in to Astorga in 3 or 4 days time.
