Take gronze.com to find the route and accomodation. It's understandable without spanish skills, but the full value you get from the countless spanish comments about the places where you can stay. The Chrome browser translates automatically at least to an understandable level.
The pilgrims I met said no / almost no waymarking along the coast till Porto.
The "normal" way passes Santarem, where you can descide wether to walk via Fatima or via Golega and Tomar.
I'd suggest to plan a route to Nazaré (on the coast) and if that's not what you like take the marked way to...
After the caminho from Lisbon to Santiago and the coastal route from Porto I thought about some variation.
Fortunately the way towards Braga was easy to find on maps, but I found it difficult to get proper information about it. As this situation still continues, I sorted my pieces of information...
Pilger99 submitted a new resource:
Caminho Portugues variant from Porto to Braga and Ponte de Lima - Porto, Braga, Ponte de Lima thoughts, distances and lodging

As long you are walking near the railway you can take advantage of the trains , e. g. stopping in Vila Nova da Raihna and sleeping in either Vilafranca da Xira or Azambuja.
From Azambuja you can still continue along the Train track up to Setil (no arrows but easy to find). I don't know if it is...
Sorry, I'm not a veggie, so I order the plate of the day without thinking. If it comes with meat it's ok and if not it's also fine.
Oats had been better available than in spanish supermarkets. Fruits can be bought easily, no matter the season. But in Spring you can pick oranges from the trees...
I don't know if you know the other way. The southern side is not much better regarding shade, stores, toilets etc. There is not much left from Ruesta for the same reason.
It is always more complicated to walk in the opposite direction. If you plan such attempt it's better to google a bit. Just...
You have so many airports in the wider area (Biarritz, Pau, Lourdes, Toulouse, Bordeaux | San Sebastian, Bilbao, Pamplona, Vitoria, Logrono, Madrid, Barcelona) that you have countless options. Be aware, that some small airports have only 2-3 flights a day.
From far abroad direct flights usually...
@lizlane
Language skills make it sometimes easier, but as you have heard, it is very solitary, so no one to speak with.
Older spaniards (now retired) often went to France or Switzerland to find work and learnt some french, the younger generation learns English at school. Though they don't pick...
The "thank you" seems to be addressed to a 3rd party.
waymarkedtrails.org and many smartphone apps use free map data from openstreetmap.org (OSM).
So the thanks should be given first to OSM and the many editors they have, than to waywarked trails and finally to this forum ;).
Any marked trail...
One day I should walk the northern route (Berdún-Asso-Sigües-Esco-Tiermas-Yesa/Leyre) since they try to promote this trail again. 20 years ago I stayed in Leyre with the monks, some years later new albergues made the southern part more attractive and after a while Leyre was only a rather long...
Even if you land at Madrid T4 at the proposed arrival time, leaving the plane and entering the railway takes more time. The same applies to the 14:45h bus. 15:45h looks OK without delays.
Waiting for the elevator already feels like 5min. Picking up luggage took 15-20min in Madrid, while on other...
Since about 20years most albergues offer hot shower. Depending on how they heat it, the term "warm" might be only correct for a few in the beginning and very late in the evening than the heater could finish the job again. But that's physics most people can learn, even while complaining about it...
Rick is well informed, I'm just remembering the "old times". Maybe it gives you an idea.
The local bus left Roncesvalles very early (~6am) and did the route back from Pamplona in the afternoon.
The bus driver and the bus stayed in Roncesvalles or nearby during night.
The way down should be semi...
Why should we tell don't do it? About 55km made to walk.
bits of GR178 are already part of the Camí de S. Jaume, but it does not connect Girona with Vic nor gets close to these towns. Just check the map
