Maybe a little late with my planning for le Puy...

Hi @Walden I have been thinking about Via Podiensis for a while but only decided and bought flight to Paris 6 weeks before I leave on 25 May. So, a very short notice Camino. This is what I found - but I don't know what things will be like in July and beyond. How to get there - I arrive in...

Forecast arrival of pilgrims in Santiago

Pilgrims from overseas will come not matter what the weather - we have bought out tickets and we will come. However, when I walked the Portuguese in 2018 the weather was cold and wet for a long time and we were told the numbers were down, mainly European pilgrims who find it easier to change...

    Feeling alone and anxious

In two weeks I leave for my fourth Camino - from Le Puy in France. France is out of my comfort zone - the language barrier and the gites run a bit differently than the albergues in Spain. A big learning curve. So … I have been as anxious as a newbie and felt like a newbie as I slowly learnt...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Sanabres 2024

I used Gerald’s guide and the Camino Ninja app in 2022 and it was fine. It’s a complete puzzlement as to what happened to you. These days I try and look at the sorts of experiences you had as God’s practical joke. This makes me laugh, lightens my mood and helps me to maintain some equanimity...

    Sevilla

Congratulations. Those of us ‘down under’ know what it takes to just get to one’s starting point. Enjoy. If you have time see if you can catch some Flamenco in Sevilla and visit the Alcazar Palace which has the most beautiful Moorish architecture and history. VDLP is my most loved Camino to...

Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

Loved my umbrella on the VdlP. Great for the southern sun and perfect for intermittent rain up north. I had it tucked into my pack belt and could just whip it out and put it away as needed. However I used my Decathlon poncho (also purchased at Zamora) during the big downpours. There was one...

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

Herein lies the flaw. Often the numbers don’t need to be credible, they just need to show the picture that the number crunchers wishes to show.

Money taken from my Cash Passport! ☹️

Good luck. Even though it was absolutely obvious I didn’t make the transaction and sent many detailed explanations they still didn’t give me a refund.

Money taken from my Cash Passport! ☹️

No. Mine was somehow skimmed. A weird story but as I said I ended up thinking it was an employee of the organisation. Anyway this thread had me applying for a Wise card. I started today and even their application stage was more vigilant than the Cash Passport.

Money taken from my Cash Passport! ☹️

Yes of course. It's better for me to use a travel card and my bank doesn't do them any more.

Money taken from my Cash Passport! ☹️

Oh no. Is this a problem with Cash Passport. I also lost $AU120 and they refused to refund as they insisted I had authorised the transaction when it was clear that I hadn’t. There were many email exchanges I actually found that I couldn’t make online purchases with the card. I wondered is...

Puebla de Sanabria - worth the cost?

I really like this stop. I stayed at Hotel los Perales and while it looks a bit of a shambles on the outside it is excellent inside and houses many collectables from the region and possibly beyond. A suit of armour greets you at the entry. It was November and cold but the heating came on in the...

    Accommodation Inquiry

Hi @Oysters66 I have found that booking is easier if you can find the website, which is not always listed in Gronze. For example, yesterday I emailed the Sougues communal gite d'etape but received no reply. They didn't have a website listed on Gronze so I did a search of the name and found...

    Accommodation Inquiry

Thanks for the reminder about Dave's spreadsheet @BlackRocker57. I forgot all about it but will now use in conjunction with other resources. Given what others have said about June (I thought it might be less populated with walkers/pilgrims) - I think I will at least book ahead until Conques...

    Accommodation Inquiry

Hi Andrew Thanks for starting this thread. The answers have been helpful to me. I arrive in Le Puy in 26 May and have had a short lead in time. I only started booking a few days ago. And have also found some challenges. I have sent quite a few emails and have not received many replies. One...
