Hi Does anyone have experience of walking the Frances with their dog? How difficult to find accommodation etc.? I would be aiming for an early start probably next April and would expect to stay in hostels/hotels rather then Albergues. Camping is not an option - too old!
Thanks Ross
I walked in the winter of 2015 through snow and rain wearing light cloth boots and had horrific blisters. If I knew how to put a photo on here I'd show you a photo of my feet! Wear proper boots.........
Completely agree. The San Nikolas is lovely, opposite an amazing Parador and a short walk downhill to some great tapas bars in the main street. You can also take a small passenger "ferry" to France! Hendaye is nowhere near as beautiful as Hondarribia but interesting (and the boat is a very cool...
Pamplona is a lovely city and great introduction to Spain. Take your time the whole way. I hope your return travel dates are flexible. The thing to remember with Spain is that most cities and large towns have grown around an old historic centre. Keep going till you find the centre, it's all...
I see there is the road to SJ. You could start walking and put your thumb out? I wouldn't accept a lift in normal circumstances once on route but I think you would not only be forgiven for hitching a ride but might find interesting company?
Dear Jules. Unfortunately I cannot help but am very interested in doing a similar thing myself next year. Park a 5m campervan safely in SJPD for 6/8 weeks. I'll keep an eye on this thread but please do let me know how you get on. Ross

Albergue de Maribel Roncal, Cizur Menor? It's a pretty place. Take your time and enjoy Pamplona? Have a gentle first day? In fact have a gentle day everyday🙂
To me the Camino is to be enjoyed and not rushed. It's more important to take time than be dictated to by time - ideally! Personally I found the changes I experienced only started after walking alone for about 15 days. It was winter and I started in Pamplona at the end of January (too much snow...
Thanks Janet and everyone else who has replied.
I think the advice to volunteer is very sensible so that is what I'll do!
Not till later this year but that's definitely the way forward.
Best wishes Ross
Don't carry too much, a sleeping bag, small emergency pillow and pillow case and change of clothes. I carried 8 kilos in the winter. Though to be fair I was wearing a lot! Have good shoes or boots broken in.
Take your time, it isn't how quickly you arrive but how long you take to enjoy the...
Hello, I walked the Camino a few years not long after my 61st birthday, in the winter.
Hoping to fully retire soon I have often thought about buying a house on the Way in Rioja and opening it as a Donativo. Does anyone know if there are any rules or regulations or if this is in any way a...
