My husband and I retired in 2013 and moved to France from Reno, Nevada. We had never heard about the Camino de Santiago until right before we left the States and there was a short blip about it on a Rick Steve's episode about Spain. Three weeks after moving to Carcassonne (where we lived our first two years in France) we saw a pilgrim walking up our street. Seeing the scallop shell on his backpack reminded us of that Rick Steve's episode and we got online and started doing a little research. An hour later we realized that part of the Camino went right up our street. It took us less than a week to start planning our first trip. I had never hiked before, my husband was an experienced hiker. We loved it so much that I went in 2014 with my aunt and we are returning in August of 2015 to do the Camino Frances a second time.
