I have walked from Salamanca to Santiago on the Ruta de la Plata last may. It was very quiet, peaceful! How quiet is the Camino del Norte? How many pilgrims would one meet a day?
I have just returned from the Via de la Plata en did some wild camping. Spend half of the nights in my tent and the other in the albergues. The tent helps to really sleep, since one does not hear the snorring from fellow pilgrims.

Just walked the Ruta from Salamanca, during the month of May. It was absolutely lovely, with all wildflowers and GREAT weather.
Some suggestions:
- Do not go via Astorga but take the Ourence road, much more quiet... and beautiful nature. Lubian is gorgeous and many old little villages along the...
If you where to walk the Ruta de la Plata, then the albergue not to miss would be, in Albergeuria, where the owner of the bar with the concha's has fixed up a traditional house of the region as an albergue.
