Hi!

I’m starting my Camino on April 13th, I fly into Madrid and plan to take the train to Léon where I will stay for one night before starting my Camino.

I would welcome recommendations on where to stay and how to get my pilgrim passport.

Any advice on any part of this journey welcome!

Buen Camino : )

Hola

You can buy a credential at many albergues as well as Tourist Officies in Spain.

You can alos buy it here at Ivars site:

First night. If you had a long transportation then you may consider to rent a single room at a hotel. Look at booking for what suits you.

Else stay at the Albergue Minicipal:

I hope this helps.

If you are not going to spend your first night in Madrid, you might like to have a rest day in Leon when your train arrives. Hospederia Pax is a private facility which is very nice and would be comfortable to recover from any jetlag. Next day you could get your credential and stay at the big Albergue which is adjacent to H. Pax. Leon has a lot to see so spending 2 days there, especially after flying overseas, would be worthwhile. There is a website, Gronze, which details lodging and support options across many caminos.

Hospideria Monastica Pax is nice. You can pick up your credential right next door at the albergue. Just be sure to request a room facing away from the square as there are bars and since you’re arriving on a weekend it could be noisy. I would recommend 2 nights in Leon - it is a lovely city with a lot to see and will help with your time zone adjustment.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Having walked the Camino Madrid last year may I suggest you take a day or 3 extra and visit Segovia - a mere 100km from Madrid. A magical city and 30mins by train from Madrid. It was a highlight of the Madrid Camino.

Last time I was in Leon, I stayed at the Benedictine albergue (they also run the posher Hospederia Pax, mentioned above), where they will happily sell you a credencial (either the one for walking to Santiago or the one for walking to Oviedo or both), whether or not you are staying there.

My advice is ... while in Leon do not fail to visit the Cathedral or the Royal Pantheon at San Isidoro.

Money stolen from bag on bed while sleeping. Estelle municipal hostel. Not a big inconvenience as my passport and credit cards were left.
