I will arrive at SJDP 1st of May .. less than a month to go ! Any tips? Should I train walking with my backpack ?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
get used to your pack yes, maybe train on a few hills and if you're not normally as active as some, try getting up every day early and going for a walk

book the first 2 to 3 places if you can. St Jean, Roncesvalles and maybe Zubiri or Larosoanna ( depending on distances you can manage)

buen camino

1st May is traditionally a holiday in Europe. I am not sure if it is traditionally Mondayised to produce a long weekend or taken on the day that it falls. This year it falls on Wednesday and I would expect that whole week to be VERY busy.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
I would train, then pay attention to how your pack feels on your back and learn how to load it where it doesn't feel lopsided. and do as many kilometers as you can, to test fit, and prepare your body for a long walk... I have been training for a few weeks, 5-6 miles a day with pack just to get a feel for it and how i may or may not do...

If you want to stay in Roncesvalles, then book your bed.

We are currently about two weeks away from the 1st of May, and while things may still change during the next two weeks, currently these will be the busiest days in Roncesvalles: Saturday 20 April, Saturday 27 April, and Wednesday to Saturday 1-4 May.

Buen Camino!

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.

In case somebody wonders: This is based on the availability of beds on the Roncesvalles website. You can see whether there are more than 40 beds available or not. When it is less than 40, the system tells you how many are left. No surprises really as we are approaching the fairly short spring peak season on this first short section of the Camino Francés where weekends and the time around the 1st of May are traditionally busy.

Currently: Busy days are Sat 20 April and then Fri-Sat 26 April to 4 May with the exception of Mon 29 April which is significantly less busy on the basis of these indicators. Buen Camino!

It is now two weeks later, and judging by the booking calendar it is still much the same: tomorrow - Monday 29 April - looks like the least busy day of these busy days in Roncesvalles, and the whole week from Tuesday 30 April to Monday 6 May looks currently like very busy indeed.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
@AsmaAli , with your start date now in just 3 days time you must be excited, perhaps already travelling.

Buen Camino!
Hey Peter , I will travel from Italy so leaving on the 1st Venice-Paris- then train to SJPDP. Will sleep one night and start the Camino on the 2nd May .I'm anxious and exited at the same time. Never did anything like this before.
