    Camino miracles

@David, I am now for many years a psychotherapist ( pretty much reality based ) , but spent a few decades as an emergency room nurse ( hard core believer of science ) ,then hospice. You'd be hard pressed to find medical professionals in those settings who don't believe in miracles. ** I'll also...

    Camino miracles

...a person considers themselves religious or not – they were still called to go for ‘some reason’). Now, miracles do happen but Santiago isn’t Lourdes and there are no racks of discarded crutches in the cathedral (would be ironic if there were!) - but ‘lesser’ miracles? Oh yes. Being a...

The REAL Camino Viejo - a new project for a Camino alternative.

...Zaragoza and along more or less the Catalan Way through Girona, the Perthus, and Perpignan towards Rome. The other oldest major pilgrimage routes through Iberia are the route Lisbon > Burgos > Bayonne > Lourdes > Carcassonne > Arles > Rome, and the Route Cádiz > Girona > Perpignan > ... > Rome.

Advice on transit: Lourdes to SJPP

Thank you so much! So happy we were able to get it done!

Advice on transit: Lourdes to SJPP

There are two ‘official’ places to get your camino passport stamped (or pick one up if you don’t have one) in Lourdes. The Information building in the domaine will stamp it for you. They also keep a register of all camino pilgrims who pass through. Alternatively, there is a small office on...

Advice on transit: Lourdes to SJPP

So many typos, we got lost, not forgit alternatively, I could just keep going and hope the office is open in Betharram tomorrow.

Advice on transit: Lourdes to SJPP

I have questions! Trying to figure out what to do. We arrived in Lourdes on Friday and began walking to SJPDP today. We forgot and wandered within the property trying to find an open gate. Almost 2 hours later we were on our way. In all of the wonderfulness of our time there, I forgot to...

    Necessary to reserve gites?

Yes. Please show respect. And if you’re not going to turn up call them and cancel.

    Camino by Coach

No, it does not belong to the definition of a pilgrimage. Lourdes is often reached by train, Mecca by plane: could you deny them the name of "pilgrimage" ? Like @wayfarer reported: "A pilgrimage is a journey to a holy place", nothing is said about the means you use to reach it. However...

    Necessary to reserve gites?

Call to find out if they are open and have not closed for the season. On the Podiensis we found fewer and fewer options after October 15th. Not sure if it's the same for that area.

    Necessary to reserve gites?

We just completed this trip from Oloron to Obanos. We booked all our stays in France: the Metairie in Eysus, the monastery in Sarrance, L’Aire d’Aspe in Accous, and the pilgrim hostel in Urdos. After that, in Spain, we did not book ahead.

    Necessary to reserve gites?

Is it really necessary to reserve the gites in France or is it ok just to arrive? I'm mainly referring to stages from Lourdes - Orolon Sainte Marie- Somport and before end of October

Pau or Oloron Sainte Marie to Puente de la Reina

...but apparently things have improved. I stayed in Oloron, Arudy and Lestelle-Betharram (I was going in reverse). In 2012, I stayed in Lourdes, Asson and Arudy (then went south on Voie d'Ossau). I have no complaints about accommodation. (I rarely do, the only things bothering me are bedbugs...

Camino Aragonês notes and observations April '24

...really useful report. This is the sort of thing the forum excels at, not (whisper)......bedbugs, snoring and blisters ;). I walked from Lourdes up to SJPdP a long time back in 2009 and have always hankered to go back again and this time turn left in Oloron Ste Marie. I may start in...

    Is the Camino too crowded?

...There are Camino less frequented if Santiago is not a must. Piemonts Pyrenees, stretching from the Mediterranean along the Pyrenees to SJPDP is great, and some parts I didn't see another pilgrim for days. Best walk ever, and Lourdes is a pearl, though a bit crowded. Just a few days from SJPDP.

    Injuries, Fatalities Since May

My take away from this is positive. According to all the statistics quoted in this thread doing the Camino is Good for you! You are much less likely to die on the Camino than off it. The numbers speak for themselves. Why? Fresh air, simple food, daily exercise, mental peace? And it is the...
