I walked from Malaga and I loved it. I thought it was a beautiful route. I used the notes from Magwood, which were very helpful. In fact she met me at the church in Malaga.
I’m in SJPP right now. IT WAS COMPLETELY BOOKED YESTERDAY BY 2 PM AND today Roncesvalles is completely booked. If I were you, I would get online right now and book Roncesvalles and Zubiri. Even Pamplona was pretty full day before yesterday.
And when they arrive in Roncesvalles with no bed? People might want to stop telling people to ‘Just go! Don’t book ahead!’ It’s no longer good advice imo, at least on this bottleneck.
Also, they don’t make that info about the municipal building clear to all. We had several pilgrims stop by...
Yes. Some found a mat on the floor there (which can be more comfie than some of those old beds!). People here at Gite Compostella tried to book Roncesvalles for tomorrow (today now) and it was full.
We are in SJPP today
While we were standing in line today, one of my pilgrims met 3 people from Taiwan, who could not find a bed. He said he also saw several people on their phones, frantically searching for beds. We saw many signs that said complete and the Albergue was complete. This is...
We spoke with Gite Compostelle. It is raining in SJPP, AND it is currently snowing in Roncesvalles. Our group will be taking the bus if this is the same tomorrow.
Can someone give me a link to the best local weather page to check for SJPP? Because the one I’m looking at said it was sunny all day today and it obviously was not.
As a person who books those nefarious ‘tour groups’ each year, let me assure you that we are NOT the ones taking up albergue beds!
The people booking in groups are often older or retired and do not WANT to sleep in a room with others. They want their own room and bathroom when possible. And so...
That’s what the three young people believed about the “nice older lady pilgrim” who they walked from Zubiri with, and who told them she would watch their stuff while they showered - only to return to find their cash and cards stolen and their Camino over in Pamplona.
Nobody has had a bad...
We got the “bird poop” scam in Barcelona. I had just read about it on the Rick Steves website or it would have worked. I was SHOCKED that the culprit was a well groomed gentleman in a business suit! I read that site before each trip to hear the latest, now.
I lost my temper on my first Camino years ago. It was on the Meseta and I took my wooden walking stick - like those they sell all along The Way - and beat it on a boulder, as hard as I could! The danger thing REFUSED to break! I felt better except for a sore hand and was happy there were no...
