Lisbon is a tourist magnet, so every possible type of accommodation is available, from very expensive historic buildings to low cost youth hostels. What are you looking for?
I haven’t stayed here, but for me, a good place to start my caminho would be from a place like the Pensāo da Prata, on...
The Fátima Association that previously provided lots of info has disbanded, but with the newly opened Pilgrim Office in Lisbon, I think you have a good source of information.
See this thread. You can see from the sign that they offer advice on both the routes to Santiago and Fátima.
If I were you, and if you don’t like Rick’s suggestion that you walk down on the road to Santa Cruz de la Serós, I would not hesitate to ask some of the people visiting the monastery if they would give you a ride down to Santa Cruz. I can’t imagine you won’t find someone. You could get a taxi...
The first thing I would say is that you should absolutely make sure to stop at the newly opened Pilgrim Office in Lisbon. I’ve given all the details here.
I think that there’s nothing wrong with booking a couple of the first few stages, and then talk to the people in the office to see what...
This almost makes me want to wait for three years to walk this route. Teruel has a lot of civil war history. There was a huge fosa (pit) where many Republicans were executed, both during and after the war. And a pretty infamous prison (well, I guess that doesn’t distinguish it from the...
I would definitely not take the bus from Atocha to Chamartin. The system is in place for travelers to use the Cercanías train (commuter rail), which goes from one station to the other in 13 minutes. If you look at the map, you will see that every Cercanías line that goes through Atocha goes...
It’s too bad that this thread spiralled into negativity and misunderstandings. Let’s close it and hope that those who need or want to make use of this service will see the good info that’s posted here.
And I just got a P.S. from Rodrigo to say they have mats if you need them (esterillas in Spanish).
It’s easy for me to say since I slept in the comfortable Casa Rural, but this town is so wonderful that if you can tolerate it, I would highly recommend the mats on the floor of the bar.
I’m...
There is currently no way for high speed trains to travel the 8 km between Atocha and Chamartín, so travelers going from, say Sevilla to Barcelona or Santiago to Málaga have to get off and transfer on Cercanías from one station to the other when they get to Madrid.
That will soon change...
Salamanca is such a great choice — the Plaza Mayor is one of the most awesome places in the world to sit and relax and drink your hot tea! And even if it rains, the Plaza Mayor after a rain just glistens and is beautiful.
Like the others, sending best wishes for a quick recovery, Luka.
My understanding is also that there is no accommodation at all in Fresno de Caracena. There used to be some basic acogida but I have heard repeatedly that it is not available now. Last year, I spoke with the wife of the mayor who said in no uncertain terms that there was nowhere in town for...
I was just about to write the recommendation that if you want to walk it in 4 days, the key is to make the first day to Pola de Gordón, but then I saw that I had said that same thing when I responded to the question asked in the thread you linked!
I don’t think much has changed in the two...
Filly, you have now put the Sagunto on my 2025 list, never too early to start thinking about the next camino! And Valencia to Burgos (or Soria) seems like a do-able camino for me.
So, do I understand right that you went to the Hotel El Horno, learned it was full, and got sent to the Fonda de...
And I rarely pass up the chance to encourage forum members to send updates and corrections to the Gronze team. Every page on their website has a contact button, and they respond to your input and comments very quickly. I’ve seen information added to the website within minutes!
Take a look at the sub-forum on the Lebaniego (I’ve moved your thread there). I walked it years ago, before some of the current re-routing, so you should look at some of the more recent reports there. Buen camino! If you have time, you should consider going on beyond the monastery onto the...
@trecile, any updates from the camino? Did you use this pack?
My 24 year old Mountainsmith Ghost (not made any longer) is really on its last legs, but I can’t bring myself to part with it.
Off topic, but this reminds me of a very funny campaign years ago when a singer had his guitar broken by baggage handlers at O’Hare airport. United eventually paid up, I believe, but took a big public relations hit.
I think that’s harsh, @Sirage. I threw out a question whose answer I could not find on google, and people threw back some theories that might explain what was going on. No harm done here, it seems to me - no one is advocating illegal or immoral action, no one is tellling me I’m stupid, no one...
