Hi, I have flown TO Spain Dublin-Biarritz and Spanish airports with Ryanair, for many years, with folded/disassembled poles inside my carry-on pack. No problem with Dublin Airport security, and Ryanair none the wiser. Returning from Spanish airports is another matter-- see other threads here on...
Vigo has a good municipal albergue since 2021.
I would strongly commend the private albergue Vingt Catro in Tivo, just before Caldas. Good food on site, lovely garden and very hospitable. O Milladoiro might suit, if you want an easy morning approach to Santiago.
Trecile, Sorry, I didn't see your ingredients, tho Amazon explained a lot about the use of the intriguing micro-container. I'm tempted, so please could you pm me perhaps, or redirect me to your post again?
Gracias, and my love to you all in Oregon north and south (Ashland of my Shakespearean...
Hi Laurie, and thanks for all your sensible advice on the Camino Aragonés (as well as so many other routes).
The taxi company took us up, and returned for us at an agreed time--two round-trips for them to the old monastery. We walked across to the 'new' monastery, exhibition and coffee shop. I...
I wrote a summary of my Camino Aragonés (spring 2019) in the Camino Society Ireland e-magazine Shamrocks and Shells. If you google that, you may find it--I imagine it was in the summer edition, perhaps autumn--sorry to be vague. The rockiness of many of the paths may be an issue for your joints...
I believe the bus is available during 'the high season' only, and that was not toward the end of April 2019, when I visited the bus station and Jaca tourism office. I and three other pilgrims availed of the Taxi Sinel service, which was very helpful--€60 return trip for four of us, i.e. €15...
I do the same, Lydia, and was pleased to leave my homemade little 'missal' with a pilgrim who was walking on to Santiago this month, when I left from my shorter Camino. Another is reprinted and laminated for next time, I hope!
It's several years since I travelled by bus from Santander to Burgos, but the most important thing to say is that it is a fantastically beautiful three-hour trip. I had expected to sleep off my early morning flight, but there was no way I could close my eyes to the glorious panorama en route.
As...
In the spring of Holy Year 2004, my sister and I spotted a large stock of what we thought might be portable toilet units, over the high walls of an industrial site near TV Galicia and Monte de Gozo. We hoped it signalled a plan to provide them along the CF for pilgrims later that summer. No such...
When I asked that sort of question three weeks ago, Vacajoe suggested that I might well be able to hitch a lift up or down with motorised tourists, once I started to go up to the Monastery. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do my short camino at this time--so I'm hoping for success in the autumn. I...

This website shows, I think, that Mass on Sunday (festivos) will be at 12 noon. And on 'laborales' (week/work days) at 8.00pm. I wouldn't be sure that includes Saturday. Your hotel should be able to assist you, on the day, or...
My own experience, within the EU, is that IF I put my credit card account well into credit (that's the rub!) before I leave, it has a lower transaction fee at ATMs than if I were to use my bank debit card (and my bank has so advised me). Because almost all my Camino expenses are cash-based (I...
VacaJoe--So, the snow has eased at San Juan de la Pena for me!! That's great. I head out tomorrow and am also thinking of taking the northern route across from Artieda (is that where you crossed over the Aragon?) Keep the info coming, and thats for the photos--I too intend to visit Javier and go...
Thanks, Annie. Opinions seem to vary on that walk DOWN, and I don't want to chance it with my 78yr knees (which have been remarkably sound until now!) Pinguingrino has also advised me, so I'll hopefully find a fairly easy solution. I didn't have the courage to arrange it with my Oregon relatives...
Yes, I'm hoping to get a bus as Albertagirl did, and will certainly visit the Turismo office first, before trying a taxi. The Office was not able to advise me earlier, by email. Thanks, all.
I'm hoping to visit the San Juan de la Pena monastery this time (my second Camino Aragonés). In the unlikely event that another Forum member might like to join me in a taxi--I'm not about to ascend or descend walking on my ancient knees), please pm me. I hope to be in Jaca on Friday 20 April or...
I'm off for my second Camino Aragonés on 17 April (hopefully a day before the weekly train strikes from Bayonne-Oloron Ste Marie!). If anyone would like to share a taxi up to the Monasterio San Juan de la Pena that weekend (Fri or Sat), you might pm me? Buen Camino a todos!
If I could add a new wrinkle to this (almost eternal) query: Does anyone know about Biarritz Airport? That will be my departure airport this spring (on Ryanair), and I'm hoping that Airport Security there will allow me to take my poles inside my cabin backpack--with the secure knowledge that it...
Carol, I had intended to send a 'PM', but can't figure how to do it on the handsome new layout of the forum.
A couple questions: where does your father live in Ireland? Is he a member, or in contact with Camino Society Ireland? I'd really recommend he gets in touch--for lots of information and...
