Yes, you can mail packages to a post office (Correos) in Spain. I’ve done it twice and it worked fine. I did it within Spain, though.
However they only hold it for 15 days. You can try to get around this by using the same general delivery address as your return address, if they will let you...
I think governments have lots of mechanisms to regulate private land if they want to. But they have to justify it to their citizens.
It doesn’t seem like we have an emergency here.
On my recent Camino Frances, I spent many a night in sold out albergues where I had to exit past a mountain of rolling luggage waiting for transportation.
All I’m saying is that I don't think we can regulate our way out of this. Mainly because I suspect most Spainards want the opposite...
Also in terms of comparing regulating the PCT to the Camino.
I assume the PCT was regulated for environmental reasons, not for the comfort of the hikers.
And probably because the National regulating bodies like the Park service have a mandate to protect the land and flora and fauna, there...
All the more reason to encourage them. I dont think anything should be regulated. Plus it would not work.
All I’m pointing out is that the Camino has changed due to popularity.
If you want the “old” camino walk somewhere else. I spent a glorious month in Venice 25 years ago, but I would never...
I just finished a few weeks ago. Unpleasantly crowded, but it was high season.
I don't think that Spain wants to limit pilgrims. It’s an economic engine that they want to fuel. Those pilgrims walking and staying in municipals dont spend as much money as the rolling luggage tourist set. Why in...
That’s probably true. I did start April 4, so I think April has become as busy as May. And it seemed busy the whole time.
But with so many Camino routes to explore, I don’t think I need the Frances anymore.
For instance, I only did make one close connection out of 3 pilgrims I met on the...
I was in Albergue Semanario Menor this weekend. And it was indeed full Friday. There was a group of Spanish Marines here, school groups, etc. It was a very important holiday in Galicia this weekend celebrating Galician Literature and culture. Most stores were closed Friday.
I stayed this week...
OP here:
Overall I had a good time. In the end I just continued along the Camino Frances. I went through Sarria and stayed off-stage a few nights and there was only one day the trail was crazy crowded.
I’m not totally naive. Of course I knew this was likely to be a busy time on the Camino...
I am doing some, and eventually will post everything good here. I have put some things on Instagram and facebook, if you do that. My pages are all public, feel free to friend or follow.
I’m on the Camino Frances since April 4. I just finished the Meseta and it feels unpleasantly busy and has since the beginning. No time time to smell the roses or draw much.
There is a sense from most people that it’s extremely busy and you have to book. I’ve often had to contact several...
I’m on my second cold. The first time I holed up in Burgos for three days .
My new one just developed yesterday but I couldnt find a private room near Astorga. So I spent a miserable night suppressing coughs in a full albergue. Get well quickly.
WhatsApp only communicates with WhatsApp. It can’t dial a regular phone number.
It might be confusing because the mobile phone numbers are attached to WhatsApp. If you want to just direct dial phone numbers you have to go outside of the app and use a regular phone or Skype or something like...
I did find a heating coil in Burgos. I found the store listed under “kitchen supply” in google maps. They sold a wide range of small kitchen items as well as stove parts and camping stoves. Repairs also. Near the center: No name on the storefront but google called it:
“Service”
C. Antonio...
The heating coils are being sold on the Spanish Amazon site as “ Hervidor de inmersión de viaje. “
“Hervidor de agua electrico” seems to be the name for a countertop plug-in kettle. I tried one store but none of the kitchen supply stores or hardware stores are open until tomorrow.
Thank you!
And of course the question I should also ask is what kind of stores would carry these things?
Maybe a kitchen supply store for the heating coil? And maybe a pharmacy for the sleep mask?
Anybody know the Spanish for heating coil and sleep mask?
I’m in Burgos walking the Camino Frances. And alas, I burnt out my heating coil. Also I foolishly decided not to bring my sleep mask. Those Albergue emergency exit lights are bright at night!
I have a rest day in Burgos tomorrow and...
The perfect Basque house to sketch?
I’m starting from SJPP tomorrow (April 3, 2024) and I’m looking for a scenic Basque style house to sketch. I will walk to Valcarlos for the night.
So somewhere between there and Pamplona along the trail or in any of the Camino towns I’ll be looking for that...
