    REI Sale

Absolutely!! Been using a rain skirt for 5 years now. 9 times out of 10 I put it on and the rain stops 😀

Are passport copies accepted at albergues?

Yes. I have laminated copy of the first 2 pages of my passport and stapled it into my credential for last 2 CFs, del Norte and CI. Always accepted in albergues, hotels, pharmacies for prescription, clinic, SIM card store and train station. Saves lots of time instead of digging out the real...

Is 5 days in Finisterre a bad idea?

Pack a lunch, Walk up to the lighthouse, take the long leisurely way back to town via the far cost. Secluded beaches and few people on the less trekked paths. But personally I would not spend more than 2 nights in Finisterre. You can bus to A’Coruna and Ferrol for a day or 2 each

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Absolutely agree!!!! Persistence and initiative is the key. Very rarely have I encountered a Peregrino who slept the night outside, and it usually was their choice.

How to get the soap residue out of socks

Been wearing smart wool socks for years and hand wash every night with any liquid hand soap, shampoo, dish detergent available. After scrubbing, I hold each sock on the faucet and rinse full blast, then wring the S…t out of them. Never had an issue

From just before Burgos - 47 friggin kms to find a bed!!!

Agreed. Just walk into town and check albergues as you go. No stress and always a bed somewhere.

    Zubiri hazardous path

It’s no better and no worse

    Zubiri hazardous path

7x down this trail and I never found it to be an issue. There are many more precarious descents on CF. I think the main problem is people out of condition get worn out coming up over the hill and down to Roncessvalles. Then they are sore and stiff and tend to hop down rather than methodically...

La Virgen del Camino albergue reopens today

Yes, I passed through there a couple weeks ago. Due to Wisepilgrim saying it was closed I booked a hostel. Trekked to the albergue to find it fully renovated and open. I asked the hosts to contact WP administrators and request corrections.

    Medication woes

Sounds about like me, plus micro bottle of alcohol, antibiotic, zycam cold med, roll of Tums, razor knife, sewing kit and microbutane lighter. Smaller than deck of cards, but tube of Voltaren, Vaseline and sunscreen take most of pack waist belt pouch. Don’t forget the 20 cm length of plastic...

Help with accommodation on Camino Francés

I reserved a bed in an albergue in Sarria 5 days ago at 1500 by phone. Arrived 1830 to find only 5 others in the large, very nice albergue. We all got lower bunks well spaced. Walked into the next 3 Albergues after 1700 on the way to Santiago with no reservations and got entire dorm room to...

    Be careful with phones.

I still keep all originals and cash in small 27 gram money bag strapped around waist under my pants. It goes into shower and into bed with me. It has AirTag sewn inside as does my pack. I sometimes hide memory stick in pack with data. Phone has photos of all cards and passport. And of course...

Start where we are or walk the extra distance to the edge of Irún?

3km. 40 minutes. Big deal. Just do it. Then you can say you walked the whole thing

Lost & Found Backpack stolen from albergue in León

So sorry. I am on CF and will be looking. For next time: I keep an AirTag sewn into my pack and also in moneybelt

What to do during long layover in Dublin?

I went to Brazen in 1994, oldest pub in Dublin, a hole in the wall dive for locals. Went back in 2013; all built-out tourist attraction 3x original size. Like that with a lot of places in Ireland

How to choose a Camino Prep Fitness Program?

Now electrolytes needed. Water is fine. They salt most of the food, and as long as you eat healthy and stay hydrated you will be fine. Unless you run this thing, it’s no intensive workout.

Painful corns on foot - any advice?

As posted, pro is best. I have used a razor knife a couple times to whittle away my own corn, but beware the hard callous can go deep. I wonder if a pedicurist might have experience with these

LIVE from the Camino CF day 1, off to a great start!

Good job!! Sounds like you could have kept going. You are gonna love the trek. Buen Camino!

How to choose a Camino Prep Fitness Program?

Lots to choose from in these posts, but how to decide......Best if your program includes things you like or do not mind doing. Boring things can really throw a program off track. Excessive soreness that does not diminish in a few days indicates you may need to try something different or...
