The « Buen Camino » or « Bon chemin » that I heard all the way to Sarria from France was limited from there. Frankly, the last five days were a disappointment reminding me that the peacefulness acquired while walking was a bit shattered by all that Humanity. I can’t wait to start the Estrecho...
I enjoyed walking the Camino Frances until Sarria where, besides five days of downpour, two legged creatures were in plentiful supply, so was the music and the « Buen Camino » scarce.
One of the first things that I would highly recommend is learning A FEW Words of Spanish. I was astounded at teaching some Americans and French persons the inability to use words like, Hola, Buen Camino, Gracias, Desculpe, and simple words of Spanish.
I am currently reading your exploits…fantastic…my concern on planning my pilgrimage is the weather at the beginning and as you walked to Merida. When did you start? Early March?
I am thinking of walking from Gibraltar to Cadiz to Sevilla to Santiago in September 2024 or March 2025. Any recommendations and ideas from people who have walked this Camino?
For many of us who live in Europe, the weather is certainly a factor in terms of when to do a camino. True, two weeks of vacation here and there does help but seriously...would most of us leave to walk a camino under 40C or under extremely adverse weather conditions?
I would like to be able to manage that...leaving CADIZ with not too much heat and arriving north of MERIDA with not so cold. Did someone say that they don't plan a camino with weather in mind? ;)
Thank you for your input. The idea is to return to arrive in Santiago. The September date may be impeded by Family affairs…if that happens then I willl endeavor to leave mid March 2025.
The Camino is almost over…one more day and it’s Santiago…hope I can get a picture of yours truly in front of the Santiago Compostela sign without it pouring down.
Thanks for your input, Mark.
I registered using the website and have a bar code. I just have to go to the pilgrim Office and show my credential and stamps? How does one obtain the other certificate that one has walked so many kilometers? Is that also found at the Pilgrim Office or elsewhere?
I would like to warn you about a ghost hotel that I encountered in Villadangos del Páramo it is located between LEON and ASTORGa and is called AVENIDA III. You want to stay in Villadangos? There are other hostels and albergues there. I have notified Booking.com of this place and suggested that...
Bag transfer is a breeze. You find special envelopes in hostels, pensions, albergues, hotels and you have your backpack transported to your next destination provided you know exactly where you are going. You call up a number in English if necessary and indicate the name of the place where you...
I have wrapped the electrical plug in bubble wrap in order that it not be damaged during transport. I use Bluetooth to keep a record of the episodes of sleep apnea.
