Hadrians Wall - any advice, tips or recommended resources?

Another thought depending upon your reason for walking/history. The Coast to Coast Path is, in my opinion, a better walk for scenery. See:- https://www.coasttocoast.uk/

Hadrians Wall - any advice, tips or recommended resources?

Having walked the Pennine Way a couple of times I would suggest that you brush up on your compass and map reading skills - you won't find too many signposts especially if you go off track following a sheep track in the mist! I agree the "soggy at times", especially immediately after leaving the...

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

Sometimes people ask you for different reasons! I was walking the 630 South West Coast Path in England when a guy came across whilst I was sitting having a rest and a bit to eat watching the harbour traffic. He asked what I was walking. Having told him, I saw that he had left a rucksack a short...

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

I thought he had received the information he required.

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

Not a clue presumably just friendly banter late in the evening but the point I was jokingly trying to make was that if you tell someone (me) they can't do something it just makes them do it!

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

I must admit that having received so many comments about why he should reconsider his proposed 1st day it reminds me of a conversation I had late on a New Year's Eve party when I said to someone I was considering running the London Marathon. A friend told me I couldn't do it, my wife replied...

    Tick remover.

My one is the size of a credit card. I always carry it in my wallet all year although I have never needed to use it however it is there in case of need. It is one of a few things I carry "in case of need" rather than "essential" when trying to reduce the weight in my pack.

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

Silly mistake using Google having looked again that was Roncesvalles Columbia -Sorry! Not sure how to put in an embarrassed Emoji!

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

It is worth reading the post "Brutal first day" where he started at 8.00.

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

Sunset in early October in Roncesvalles is just before 6 o'clock. I would enjoy SJPdP and start the next day but you may prefer another option. I know someone who started at about 13.00 and arrived OK but that was in June where sunset would have been much later.

Please use the correct format in monthly calendar threads!

I haven't read all of the above posts but just wanted to thank the moderators for their work as the monthly starting list proved useful to me to message others starting at SJPdP the same day I was beginning enabling me to meet up for a drink and a meal the evening before.

Pilgrim arrested over forest fire near Astorga

Google translation:- "The man accused of starting the fire that has destroyed more than 850 hectares in La Maragatería has been released with charges. He is a young pilgrim of German nationality. After giving a statement in the courts of Astorga, in fact, he has continued on his way to Santiago...

Pilgrims Behaving Badly - Is the Camino Frances full?

Not being a believer, the Camino is a long walk for me to enjoy the countryside and the companionship of others of many nationalities and religions or none, but that doesn't stop me respecting the local population and their property. I have walked many other long-distance paths but the Camino is...

Pilgrims Behaving Badly - Is the Camino Frances full?

In the UK you would probably get the same response from the local communities or perhaps even worse apart from stealing lettuce! We also have people using disposal barbeques that they leave behind that set our peatlands alight. Our seaside towns and those in scenic areas e.g. the Lake District...

    Pilgrim rescued near Zubiri today

Is the answer to reroute the "recommended" Camino on the basis that it is an issue where even those who take care injure themselves (no doubt there are other difficult/dangerous paths but this one gets more publicity) - no doubt pilgrims in ancient times either walked it before it became so...

    Camino fatigue?

I haven't reached your stage yet, I am just about to get the train to Stansted Airport before flying to Biarritz tomorrow for my 3rd Camino - still excited about what lies ahead, slightly later than before so the scenery will be different. Yippee!

    Snake identification

Two years ago whilst I was walking the Camino Frances someone picked up "a lovely little thing" before being airlifted to hospital! Take care.

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

On a whim, after taking retirement, and having sat at a desk for years, I decided to walk the Pennine Way which I had a desire to walk since my teenage days in the scouts. Whilst "only" 268 miles, it required map reading/compass skills (which I could still recall). The route follows the rocky...

Now let me think..... I don't use ketchup so perhaps it was OK to drink the wine!

    Re: Current Lunch Prices

I wish I hadn't read the post especially as I am off on the CF later this month! I always thought it would be rude to leave some.😁
