Vegetarian albergues/restaurants on the Camino Frances

Good to know because I actually found it much harder than I expected. It meant a lot of egg dinners or just not eating out with friends I met along the way, which was a pity. Sauces are the killer because I never knew what was in them. Soups are normally thickened with flour. I have photos of a...

Do you know where this is?

Interesting how one view can look so different. Very early in the morning, Sept. 2012.

This is totally against Camino spirit but . . .

There is something special about walking as the sun rises. I might have been annoyed by lights, snoring, plastic bags, etc but at the end of it all, when looking back, none of it matters! Just enjoythe luxury of even having the experience.

    swim suit

It doesn't add weight and you might be happy to have it. I went in September and didn't use it to swim but in July I am sure I would have. A few places have pools.

    Bed Bugs - permethrin

Also there is a shop on Capel/Mary Street that carries Nomad products.

    Bed Bugs - permethrin

Go or order from the great outdoors or 53 degrees north. They have a life systems bug spray for clothing in a black bottle. I treated my bag, sleeping bag, and clothes (that wouldn't be washed everyday like my fleece) and never had a problem. Two people I ended up walking with got bites, I...

    Traveling from Ireland

I flew from Santiago via Madrid to Dublin October last year. I had it booked before I left but if should be easy to find connecting flights even after you're done, if you have no schedule. I found flying to Madrid was actually cheaper than the bus, train, or renting a car. However, if you want...

    It's Different This Year

To clarify, I was not mad at them but was getting swept up in that being my top concern, so I opted out. I just decided if I didn't get a bed and I needed to sleep outside that would be fine. I didn't go on camino to be in a rush everyday (even if on a schedule) so let that stress around me roll...

Hat or No Hat? That is the question!

I echo the buff suggestion. I brought two because they are so versatile. Even used one to wrap my ankle at one point. It also proves good for an eye mask when you want to sleep and keeps ear plugs a bit more secure in your ears to help ignore snoring.

    Camino very busy now

I am jealous. That places holds a lot of my favorite memories.

    It's Different This Year

I walked Sept-Oct 2012 and what I remember most is the peace I felt. I ran across some opportunistic and unpleasant people. Found some personalities, despite being friendly, completely unbearable. I was extremely tired, hungry and in pain at points, so I am sure (even though I'm quiet and...

My Short film of the Camino (15th June-10 July, 2013)

Thanks. I love watching people's videos and seeing photographs that bring me back to my trip.

a different take on pack weight

I've been going back and forth on this now and I'm still not sure what I'll do. I bought a Gregory Jade 60 litre bag last year before I really researched. Silly, I know. I liked the way it fit and I walked in the stop for a while with 30 pounds in it and it felt okay. Why I thought I would be...

    Bed bugs alert

I bought a bed bug sheet but it's not fitted. Basically it's a treated mesh net you put down and is super light. I thought it was for mosquitos but it says 'bed bug sheet'... not sure how useful it will be since if not fitted it would just move in the night when I move. I have a feeling I'll...

    Laundry Soap

I bought laundry strips at an outdoors stop, perhaps the same as 'camping buds?" It reminds me of those Listerine strips that would dissolve on your tongue. 50 washes in one little dispenser that weighs nothing but I haven't tried them yet. I should before I go. I bought the shampoo version for...

    Class of 2012

I'll just be a day a head of you. I bought a one season bag (which I wonder if a thicker liner would be much different) here. I believe it was Pieces who suggested it (thank you if it was). I'm happy with my choice because it's very light 460g and am just hoping it will be warm enough. I figure...

    Class of 2012

Yeah, my feet are my only mode transport daily so I am well use to walking. I don't own a car and every bike I've ever had was stolen, so I walk more than most. I can easily do 24km without issue but that's without my 5.5kg (still trying to get that lighter) pack and not everyday for a month. I...

    Greetings from the Way!

I am glad you enjoyed your experiences. The quote above oddly makes me more excited to start mine next month. I want to be pushed to my limits and test my own strengths mentally and physically.

    Class of 2012

32 days to go! I should really pick-up my training but just can't make myself go out in the rain. Right now I have a choice and my choice is staying dry. I might regret this soon. :)

    Class of 2012

I would be careful because people seem to misunderstand wheat intolerance and gluten intolerance. Gluten is a protein composite that comes from more than just wheat products. Rye, barley, malt and even some oats contain gluten. I live in the EU and still cannot go anywhere near wheat products...
