🚄 New high speed train Madrid Oviedo

I had two shorter rail trips to book: Sahagun to Leon, and Leon to Astorga. My high speed trains have been booked, but the shorter ones didn't show up: until today. Bam! There they were. I booked my train from Sahagun and a bus to Astorga. I understand that they can't book out their trains too...

Plane to Atocha to High Speed!

According to a video (which was very helpful), when you purchase a high speed train, your QR code will give you access to the Cercanias train. There should be one turn style (sp?) that has a large QR sticker on it, that will read your free ticket. Video:

Plane to Atocha to High Speed!

Perfecto! This is just what I needed to know: the location of the trains, thank you! As I have walked the Pyrenees before, I'm starting this Camino from Pamplona the following morning, walking only 16kms. Thanks for your help! ;-)

Plane to Atocha to High Speed!

My plane is scheduled to land at 7:30 a.m. I am carrying my pack (no checked luggage). I have purchased my high speed train ticket to Pamplona that leaves at 10:30 a.m. I have that free commuter ticket attached to my high speed ticket. Here's the plan: I'm sitting near the front of the plane...

🚄 New high speed train Madrid Oviedo

I am trying to book 4 trips using the train, I have 2 booked, but the 2 shorter slower trains are not showing up yet. I have a link to a video explaining this: The trains will not show up until they are put on the schedule (52 days out?). It's all random, so I check every other day to book...

    Walking Poles

Don't worry about how you look. I wonder if the poles are too short and you're bent over them? If so, raise them so that your forearms are parallel to the ground. Just walk and let them swing forward, soon you'll forget you have them (until you leave them in a cafe or albergue)! Practice and...

    2024 Spring Train Tickets

I have done this as well, it looks like about the same travel time. I just had a free ticket on the commuter, but if time is tight, I will jump on the yellow and black bus for sure!

    2024 Spring Train Tickets

I walk April 4th, arriving at MAD from the U.S. I used the app: Trainline, which facilitates train travel for Renfe and other European (I believe) train ticketing. The trains for the first week of April are now available (53 days out when purchased). There is a fast train to Pamplona (3.5...

    How is San Bol?

2023 update: Lovely sweet San Bol. 4 bunk beds downstairs (8) and a double upstairs. Judith from Hontanas comes out to prepare the paella, salad, bread and wine. There is only one bathroom/shower, but everyone was quick and respectful. I was so lucky to be with a great group of people and made...

    Madrid to Pamplona

Be careful of flying: my friend had her poles confiscated when flying within Spain (not allowed unless checked). Also, I have had my flight to Pamplona canceled because there weren't enough passengers, and I was rebooked on the next flight (6 hours later). I could have taken a bus or train and...

LIVE from the Camino @TiedyeAT on the Camino Francés

Last year on the Portuguese, (after Pardon), just as I spotted the roof of my albergue: I wasn't watching and "blip!" I twisted my ankle. Luckily, it was only a sprain. If I had my boots on, it may not have happened. A farmer, plowing his field, stopped his tractor, and half carried me to the...

On the Camino, on this date in April...

April 2024! ...because Easter is in March this year! I've walked 9 years various routes (?!) and this one I will walk Pamplona to Sahagun; slowly and short stages. Hope to secure that 1/2 way certificate! Currently, it's the end of September and I've started dreaming. Some one once asked...

Suggestions for starting point north of Porto

We just started from Viana do Castelo (take bus). Stay in the Santa Luzia albergue on top of hill. VdC has a great mall with a food court btw. Grocery store is in the mall. Get groceries down below before taxi up. There is a beautiful trail down to join Coastal route.

Albergues full in Orisson - bad time to start?

You could always taxi up to Orisson (the steepest section) and walk on to Spain, or taxi down and up again the next day.
