    The Loudest Whistle

We sell them at work, I've seen them in lot of places here. They're pretty much a basic round metal cylinder, coloured, and loud.

    Sticker Mania?

I have a photo of that same bridge covered in stickers from May this year , I'm sure there weren't stickers on it the last time I walked. The Santiago sign though has looked like trash every time I've passed it. much worse than your recent photo. It usually has stuff hanging off all over it to...

    Transportation from Toulouse-Blagnac?

Flew to Toulouse, then bus to train station (from the airport) then train to Bayonne, and train to St Jean.

    How to go to Finisterre?

You can buy the MonBus tickets a few doors down from the pilgrim office.

    Organizing shared expenses with friends

Kind of depends on where you are, and the value of a meal. As my breakfasts are under 10 euro (the usual credit card minimum) I pay cash. Main meals are often over 10 euros so a credit card payment is possible.

    Organizing shared expenses with friends

Yes, because of this I prefer to just pay for myself, it would double my costs to have a shared kitty. I will often eat two entrees for instance and have one wine, whilst others eat their way through a menu and a bottle. I prefer to take fruit with me and snack, and have smaller meals - personal...

Vegetarian Camino - a real sacrifice

If your diet varies from the country's norm, eating out can be tricky, and you have to buy, carry and prepare your own food. Staying in albergues makes that a lot easier, plus there may be other people staying there with the same needs. Staying in hotels is more difficult for food, and laundry -...

The best time to walk the Camino Frances May or September?

Spring is flowers and birds, especially storks. But can be cold and wet, Ive walked in a hot May, and also in a cold one. Ive walked in a incredibly hot September, and a much cooler one. By September all the plane trees are in leaf providing shade in villages and towns. May I occasionally needed...

When did they start playing the bagpipes in the Praza do Obradoiro?

And in 2019 there was a woman singing opera in the afternoon, by the morning the piper was back

Vicarie Pro - more than one person?

I found it quite difficult to arrange and had trouble hunting someone who knew how to deal with it, as the online registration is how they manage things these days. You still need to do the online registration, it doesn't give you an option for Vicarie Pro, and yes unfortunately it does just get...

    Shoes ... Large toe box

I have used Brooks Ghost and a German brand of sandal in the past, but this year due to a mess up with the supplier, I used Topo's running shoes and they were brilliant. I met a Swiss guy who had a Topo trail shoe which was very similar and comparing notes we were both impressed with the shoe. I...

Food on La Meseta beyond abysmal

I walked a few months ago, and found plenty of good food to eat on the Meseta. I dont rely on the pilgrim menu, it depends on the town, and I adjust my mealtimes to match what's open. My guide book (the little green Michelin one) gives me a quick visual of the services available in each town...

These are travel hacks I typically bring. What are some of your travel hacks? I'm targeting the beginning of Fall.

Of your first 5 items I would only take 1, the jacket. Of the first 12 I would take only 4. In my opinion ear plugs more useful than an eye cover, but YMMV. Your medical items are personal for you - but for a Camino I'd add some first aid/blister treatment and sunscreen. I take only a basic kit...

    Poles have failed - help!

I need two poles too, I'd see if someone can help you where you're staying..

Three section telescoping vs. folding poles.

I've had the same Fizan telescoping poles since I bought them in Leon in 2017, they've had a lot of use with no problems. They're extremely lightweight and very adjustable. I havent used the folding ones.

    Burgos for 2 nights

I stayed there last time, the rooms were small but clean and comfortable. Close to the old town, and on the Camino. There was a convoluted way of getting in and out of the building after hours, but it was very reasonably priced, and Id stay there again.

    Abandoned elderly pilgrims

As a normally fast walker I find it is hard to adjust your speed down to a much slower speed. It takes physical effort, as your legs go on automatic, and its hard not to go to your normal stride. However when walking with someone injured or older I make an effort not to race off. I wouldn't...

That climb to Alto do Poio is always a surprise

    Backpack transfer process?

Generally the bags need to be in reception labeled by 8am for collection, with the envelope attached with euros inside. I phone or Whatsapp the night before to let them know there is something to collect, or the albergue staff may offer to do it for you. When I stayed somewhere they didn't...
