Nice to know that it’s the responsibility of everyone else (authorities and fellow pilgrims) to ensure that I have a good Camino. With that in mind I’d like to offer you the chance to finance my next Camino. I’d prefer if you bought me a first class flight but would settle for business (economy...
So are you saying it’s up to some “authority” to ensure there are beds available for every pilgrim that happens to be walking and at any and every place they may want to stop? That’s ridiculous and certainly an unattainable wish
I’ve walked the Frances three times in September/October and enjoyed it each time. Early in September the path can still be crowded but lightens up a bit later in the month. The weather tends to be cool mornings followed by warm days perfect for walking. Last year however was the wettest one...
My recommendation is always the same, if possible go for at least a month, which happens to be enough time to complete the French route. In my opinion this gives you enough time to really become immersed in the life/culture of the Camino which in turn opens you up to all the good lessons and...
If you want to book Orisson or Roncessvalles it’s never too early. As for the donativo albergues a fair price is at a minimum what you would pay at a private albergue.
Technology certainly is showing that it can be a double edged sword when it comes to finding a bed for the night. As more and more pilgrims opt to use booking.com to find a bed they’re contending with more and more pilgrims using that same site trying to do the exact same thing and end up...
I don’t think you can go wrong, whichever route you choose. (It’s the CAMINO, it’s bound to be good! 😁) For myself, I found a mix of the two routes to be best. The coastal route (for me) became a bit boring after a couple of days. I wasn’t a fan of the boardwalk and I missed the feeling of...
In 2015 my sis and I met a Dutch man whose pack had gone missing that morning. It was nowhere to be found in the albergue and hadn’t been left near the other transferred packs. It turned out that two other “helpful” pilgrims saw it laying near his bunk yet he wasn’t around (he was in the...
Absolutely yes. That’s not just my feeling but after my first Camino in 2012 my sister remarked on the difference in me, something profound enough that she embarked on her own Camino. Every time I return to walk I discover (and rediscover) the lessons the Camino has given me. Simplicity is the...
The real question to ask yourself is “regardless of the rain will I keep walking?” The rain may be a light drizzle, it may be an on going downpour, but will either make you stop? If you plan to keep walking then the rain doesn’t matter, it’s just another facet/lesson of the Camino. (A bonus of...
In my experience the Camino always provides, however you need to say “yes” and trust that it will be good. Too often, when we’re in need of something, we turn it away when it’s presented to us, not recognizing it as the gift/answer form the Camino.
As henrythedog said, you’ll find fellow pilgrims on the train. They may become your first Camino buddies. 😊 If you need to stay in Pamplona one night you can also catch the bus to St Jean the next day.
One other thing about that Camino that I have to share-it provided an amazing lesson in saying “yes” and trusting in the outcome, letting the Camino work it’s magic. Coming through Esposende I was having a less than fun time. I couldn’t find the albergue, I was hungry and alone. As I walked by a...
I had the same experience as you. After walking the French route twice and meeting so many amazing people I decided to change things up and walk the Portuguese coastal route since I’d heard so many good things about it. What a difference (and not in a good way) Three days of walking and I was...
