I left Taranaki many years ago and I have got addicted to the caminos (20). Everyone will have there own thoughts on boots - but I have never needed them I just get runners with lots of cushioning and a wide toe box - As much as I love Spain, Sydney is fabulous if I can saty away from the traffic.
I am ahead of you and in two days time I will be in Santander. The Norte is pressing all my Camino buttons. There are enough people to have a camino family if you want, without having to fight for bed's, easy walking and spectacular scenery, even the damp weather is adding to the effects

I had some trepidation re.walking temperatures this year. (after seeing what happened last year) but ths year was unseasonably wet and cool..perfect walking temp. My Spanish walk is starting a little earlier and I am using the time to do the Valcarlos walk out of SJPP...I haven't done that...

Malta and Sicily. So far I haven't seen any other pilgrims on these caminos and the Sicilian one was tough terrain. But the locals were unbelievably kind and helpful.
