Agree the biggest trap I found was small villages with limited store opening times or ones where everything is closed because of feast days. The exception being bakeries. The host at your accommodation will be able to tell you
Small tins of tuna etc are a great standby with crackers
I recall staying in one on the VDLP and asking the person looking after it what the average donation was. He shocked me when he said many leave nothing.
They provided bed and dinner and a light breakfast.
He said the average was about €5.
To me that’s not in the spirit of the Camino.

Hi Gerald
I plan to resume the VDLP from Zamora in late March or early April 2023
I can't find electronic copies of your books from some time back however have a print copy I bought from you in Dublin around 2017.
Can you please tell me where I can the latest and if the accomodation details will...
Hi Mike
Just be prepared for hot weather. I left Seville late March. Was wet and later great flowers. Then by mid April getting very hot by 1-2pm as I approached Salamanca.
Although the following year people arriving in Salamanca in mid April were experiencing snow.
I think from mid April on...
It’s a lottery. In March 2018 it was heavily flooded in early to mid March.
By early April it was hot by Salamanca and need to finish by 2-3 pm.
In 2019 people coming into Salamanca in April were trudging through snow.
So no way of knowing. Agree just be prepared for both cold and hot.
I...
Buen Camino Daniel.
Its a long way although has some amazing stretches.
I will be interested to hear which areas you find the most interesting. And don't skip the major old Roman towns. They are a delight.

Hi
The only thing I can add is a great new app that shows the Camino. Windy Maps. It is the best I have seen and works off line like the sat nav in a car. Doesn’t use phone data. Shows the variation also north of Salamanca
Buen Camino

Hi Martin
thanks for the information. I will download the Windy Maps; sounds better than Maps Me if it has the Camino shown on it. I am already booked to arrive in Salamanca on the 25 April so can't really get there any earlier; trying to avoid Easter! I am allowing nearly a month to do the 500...
Can you confirm please the Camino is now back to the normal route? I wont be walking that section until late April however keen to know in advance any areas where i need updates closer to the time
Thank you

Icebreaker is a brand that started in NZ years ago and makes high end wool garments with the claim that you can wear them for 2-3 days or longer without them smelling. I have many of them and think they are just about the best around, come in different weights and can be easily hand or machine...
There are a lot of questions. I will try and answer several.
It will be very cold both early in the year and at the end. Walked through Galicia on the CF early November 2018 with snow and lots of rain. Many albergues closed. I walked VDLP also last year starting late March. Lots of streams to...
I note you indicate your child can walk and only wanting to use the push chair on difficult terrain.
When I walked last year there was a veteran pilgrim who couldn’t carry a backpack so she bought a shopping trolley In Seville and placed everything in it. She did the whole way. When it was...
Hi Sue
Suggest you download Gronze.com and ensure it has the English translation enabled. It shows the route, places to stay, has reviews on many as well as phone numbers to call albergue etc. Works off satellites so you don’t need wifi.
I used it last year Seville to Salamanca and will do so...
